Watch the Video During a weekend event, a newly appointed Iranian governor was slapped on the stage by an official who walked over to him. When the incident happened, Zeinolabedin Khorram, the new governor of East Azerbaijan region, was on stage giving a speech at the Imam Khomeini Mosque in Tabriz, in the northeastern region of Azerbaijan. A video released by Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency shows a man calmly approached Khorram, slapping him across the face, and then shoving him. Security guards rushed at the offender and pulled him off the stage. The country’s Interior Minister, representatives from Ayatollah Khamenei’s office, and other state authorities all observed the embarrassing event.
