Sometimes I feel ashamed as a Nigerian!

Just because E-coli is killing people in Europe automatically means the young girl died from it?

First of all, I am so glad you responded. More glad that you responded emotionally with insults, just as I predicted.  And being insulted by an air head always ALWAYS makes my day!

I love it

I love it

I so Love getting insulted by punaniiiiiis

Now formalities out of the way, lets get practical!

In short, there is non there in the first place, since this  fail to realise we live in a globalized world where, people can travel in a short notice, and flights leave Europe to Nigeria and other parts of the world every seconds, carrying people who might be infected with this or any other disease without them knowing it yet.

Of course we now live in a globalized world and shyytt happen.

That said, the young lady neither traveled to Europe nor hung out with people from Europe. In plain English, she did not eat anything that might have been contaminated from Europe. This lady, the probability that she visited Europe or died from the strain of Ecoli circulating in Europe is very small. Putting it into perspective for you: America will one day produce a Black president ( Both parents Black) and they will also, one day, produce a Gay President; however, the probability that they will produce a black and Gay president is very very very very small.

Furthermore, ".     .     . Nearly all the sick people either live in Germany or recently traveled there. Two people who were sickened are now in the United States, and both had recently traveled to Hamburg, Germany, where many of the infections occurred. British officials announced four new cases, including three Britons who recently visited Germany and a German person on holiday in England."

Even though, if she did get poisoned from the European strain, she should not have died. And would not have died, at least, not so fast. Why?
At least 15 people there have died from the recent outbreak. According to doctors, two-thirds of patients in Hamburg, Germany, were suffering from severe neurological problems such as language difficulties and seizure. http://www.catholic.org/health/story.php?id=41637

Again in plain English, most of the people affected are either already sick or severely immunocompromised. And when you are not immunocompetent, any thing, and I mean ANYTHING, even ordinary cold, can KILL you. For all we know about her, prior to her presentations, she WAS a healthy, young, vivacious, soon to-be 30 yr old female with little or no serious past medical illness. Someone that young, dont die from E-coli/abdominal pain of few days.

Previous E. coli outbreaks have typically hit children and the elderly, but the European outbreak is chiefly affecting adults, especially womenhttp://www.catholic.org/health/story.php?id=41637

Again, from the above it is clear that if she had gone to Europe/Germany, she probably would have either died there or "kpeme" en route to Nigeria.

Theblessed:
That's how HiV Aids quickly spread to all over the world,

Comparing E-coli with HIV is just stupidddddd. E-coli is a bacteria that produce toxin inside the host.  HIV is a virus. When HIV gets into the body, it has to be replicated first, in the T-cells and then stored inside the macrophages. In plain English, E-coli act on the mucosal of your intestine to cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and vomiting and the "baddest" symptom of them all, what they call HUS, Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. Hemolytic means it breaks down your RBCs, Uremic = kidney failure, Syndrome = more than one disease manifestation i/e Hemolysis and Uremia.

On the other hand, HIV's RNA needs to be replicated and it has to infect lotsa cells in your body before you see any manifestation and most often, your body fights back until it no longer can withstand the assault.  In summary, the modus operandi of Ecoli, a bacteria, and HIV, a virus are so different, only a dimwit like you would refer to both in the same context.

Second, Route of infection between E-coli and HIV is different. E-coli you get through food and HIV through blood/semen/body fluids etc  So in contrast to what your deluded self would have us believe, you dont spread HIV after one intercontinental flight like you do in SARS, Flu and common pathogens that cause Diarrhea.

From all we know, she only complained of stomach pain, and in a child bearing woman like her, the etiology of her stomach pain run the gamut:There can be more than one kind of pain involved. There is, for example, what I call the appendiceal pain; she has been reporting it for days, who knows, the appendicitis probably got ruptured causing sepsis and her eventual death. Then the pain could have been from her ovaries, endometriosis, PID, ectopic pregnancy that, ruptured, who knows. And, then, you have the liver, hepatic adenoma that burst open. The spleen nko and what about her marital life; she may have been poisoned.  Of course, your one track mind couldnt think of that. How could it, when you have nothing better to do with your head, stupidly parroting what you hear on TV besides.

Consider again the nature of her stomach pain. Consider the origin, her gender, her medical history, her financial status. IS this a case of food poison? It may well be, but we dont know that, at least not from THE published story.

Your case reminds of the story I heard as a kid from my big uncle. There were two men sitting together  in a beer parlor. One of the guys is a traditionalist/babalawo/juju man, the other a Xtian believer, and the two are arguing about the proof of the rightness of their different beliefs that comes after about the tenth bottle of beer. And the traditionalist says: Look, it's not like I don't have actual reasons for not believing in God. It's not like I haven't ever experimented with the whole God and prayer thing. During the war ( in Osun State), Me and two other people got caught away from the the rest of the warriors and we were totally lost and we found ourselves face to face with our opponents with guns, and the other two guys, with the same charm as me got killed after exchanging fire: I cried out 'Oh, God, if there is a God, I'm lost and I'm gonna die if you don't help me.' And now, in the beer parlour, the religious guy looks at the traditionalist all puzzled. "Well then you must believe now," he says, "After all, here you are, alive." The traditionalist smiles coyly. "No, man, all that was was a couple of warriors in that area came to my aid.

We can dice and splice the story how ever we want. But the arrogance here is palpable.  The traditionalist/babalawo/Okija guy is so totally certain in his dismissal of the possibility that the warriors that came to his aid had anything to do with his prayer for help. True, there are plenty of believers who seem arrogant and certain of their own interpretations, too. They're actually even more annoying  than the traditionalists. But the believer's problem is exactly the same as yours, TheBlessed: blind certainty, a close-mindedness that amounts to an imprisonment so total that you the prisoner do not even know you are locked up.

On the surface, this seems easy enough.  "She died from E-coli, from the exact type of strain that is killing people in Europe." Then you review her chart.  Digging deep and talking to her family, where was the pain, did it radiate anywhere, whatever it is? How long was it there? Does anything make it better or worse? What are your past medical problems? You know the drill by now, it becomes obvious this is not a case of E-coli.

Please, don't think that I'm giving you life lessons in critical thinking here, or that I'm saying you are supposed to think this way, or that I expectyou to just automatically do it. Because it's hard. It takes will and effort, and since you are like every other puccy  on NL, who uses her head for nothing besides an object to poke under a hair dryer,  you won't be able to do it because you just cant

Now, go back to watching TV or you might wanna spend your time doing sometime that is actually meaningful, sucking my dyyyyyck. If you are hot, that is.

For all I know it is true nigerian hospitals are underfunded and our eqivalent of CDC is epileptic. Granted people die in the US. hell, people die all around the world but you can never compare the quality of medical investigation and care between the US and nigeria. And its very true that diseases travel fast these days and even if a particular kind of disease kills people with poor immunity I believe the public should be alerted its not normarl to say oh since they are already immuno compromised they could die of anything so they should not be alarted.
