Breaking News !!! On the 24th day of the 10th month in the year 2021. A black African man from the Igbo race, called Mazi Uba Acho discovered a Lake in Leicester East Midlands of England. This newly discovered Lake by Uba Acho shall be called Iyi Ojemba. Just as Mungo Park discovered river Niger in Nigeria. A river Ogbaru, Anam and Onitsha people and ancestors had been fishing in and swimming in long before the great great grand father of Mungo Park was born. But hey! Mungo Park travelled over six thousand miles from Scotland in 1795 and discovered it. Just as David Livingstone travelled thousands of miles in 1855 to discover Zambezi river in Zambia and Zimbabwe also discovered a waterfall which he named Victoria-falls. Of course all the people, tribes and communities in Zimbabwe and Zambia, who have been hunting, farming, rearing their herds in that area for centuries were all blind they couldn’t see such water bodies. Until a Scotish man came from Britain to discover it. Up till today, these anomalies are still in our African school curriculum, and they are still being taught to our children. And you wonder why we have adults and leaders who take no pride in being African. And what you have no pride in, you can’t value, what you don’t value, you can’t cherish, what you don’t cherish, you can’t preserve nor develop. So, Mazi Uba Acho have discovered this Lake and named it Iyi Ojemba. I hope they put it on English record, and teach it to their children. Ndewonu Our Mumu Suppose Don Do by Now! My fellow Nairalanders, what do you think about this? 1 Like

Lol… love your discovery though. But I think why the name expatriates gave to our rivers stood is because the locals didn’t give it a name. I stand to be corrected 1 Like |

Emperormartin:the river cuts across many kingdoms and was known by different names by different tribes. How will the igbos at onitsha name the river and then the Guineans who have never met the igbos accept same name For the op mungo park was first to document the source of the river, africans would have passed through or seen the place without knowing what it meant or signified. In those days anyone that tried to navigate the whole river from beginning to end would have ended up being killed or taken as a slave for Arabians or Americans. So dont blame our ancestors for staying in their lane 3 Likes

ednut1:I got what you said and it’s easily understood if you grow up in Africa. There’s one major line in Africa Oral tradition of stories and tales especially in Igbo tradition which usually go thus “There was once a journey man who crossed seven rivers and seven forest…” In this scenario you’ll now understand Africans of old doesn’t seek to know where the rivers begin and end but they only crossed it… |
