Channels Television on Sunday won the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA) for Best Television Station of the Year – extending its record in the category.

The latest achievement brings to 14, the total number of prizes claimed by the multi-award-winning station.

Years won so far are 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020 (the latest).

Channels Television’s Controller of Programmes, Mr Ambrose Okoh, led some senior staff members to receive the award on behalf of the organisation at a ceremony held in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The award for Best TV Station, which recognises media excellence in the country, is one of the numerous recognitions Channels Television has received in Nigeria and globally for its programming, with an audience of over 20 million people within and outside the country.

You're right. If it has been managed well with the leverage of network they have, it should have been the best in Africa.

Really? But no one has told us the better performance indices that others achieved and Channels did not in 2020. In my own view, 2020 was when Covid fully blew out and Channels covered it and informed people more than any other national station. Channels tried during the endsars protest as well. They were even fined at a time for speaking against the government. I know Arise will also get an award soon.

At least, I gave reasons such as endsars and Covid coverages. There are other regular indices such as reach, picture and sound qualities, professionalism, balanced reportage, quality of staff; number, genres & traffic(viewership rates) of flagship programs, etc. Channels beat other stations based on these parameters.

Yes of course. Arise tv is watched globally. Their content is for both local and international audience. TVC and channels tv are more of local content

You may be righ on the nature of contents. But Channels is watched globally as well. If I may tell you, this local content of a thing is one of the key parameters for the award. The award is called "Nigerian Media Merit Award." That means you and I can now agree that the organizers were right to have given the award to Channels TV. Arise may win the one of Africa later.
