No fewer than seven persons have been confirmed killed and many injured by suspected herders, who sacked Nega Village in Lau local Council of Taraba State.

The herders, according to a witness, stormed the community on Tuesday night shooting sporadically.

Residents told The Guardian that several persons, who narrowly escaped death, left with gunshot wounds, just as an unaccounted number were still missing at the time of filing in the report.

Our source, who also claimed to have narrowly escaped, said: “The gunmen stormed the village about 9.00 pm on Tuesday and started shooting sporadically at the villagers, killing seven, while seven others were said to have escaped with injuries.”

While the remains of the deceased were yet to be buried at press time, the injured were reportedly receiving medication in undisclosed health facilities.

A community leader said: “Though we are sharing a common boundary with Adamawa, the incident occurred in Taraba and all the people that were killed and injured are from Taraba.”

They should invite Hisban to carry out an investigation immediately

Starting from discovering the proximity of the affected community to any army cantonment

The army cantonment should be searched thoroughly for the killer herdsmen and their weapons

Hisban should send their report to Amotekun pending when Nigeria security forces return from election duty in Anambra
