WINDOWS 11 NEW FEATURE:  When you don't want to be heard on Microsoft Teams calls, Microsoft has made it simple to silence your microphone. When using messaging apps like Microsoft Teams, a new mute icon in the taskbar is available in the current Windows 11 Dev Channel update.

This icon's first iteration works as expected, but it's presently only available to a small group of Windows 11 beta testers. Rather than searching for the mute button in Teams, you can just click the Microphone icon in the Windows 11 taskbar and select Mute. You can also utilize the icon to examine the status of your call audio and which app is using your microphone. Regardless of how many windows are open or what is on your screen, the icon will remain visible throughout your call.

"No more embarrassing or awkward situations when you forget to unmute or mute your microphone." "With the new call mute feature in Windows 11, you can converse and work with confidence and comfort," write Amanda Langowski and Brandon LeBlanc, who run the Windows Insider Program.

This initial mute button only works with Microsoft Teams on the desktop with school or business credentials, and it may not be visible to all Windows 11 Dev Channel insiders. Microsoft intends to gradually roll out the icon, as well as add support for it to the Windows 11 chat app. Other communication applications, such as Slack, Zoom, or Google Meet, can use the functionality and add it as well, though it appears that it is up to the app developers to do so.

Microsoft intends to bring out the mute symbol to the regular version of Windows 11 once beta testing is completed. This will be done in a future service update, according to the website. This will be the latest time-saving feature to be added to Windows 11 once everyone gets it. Snap Layouts, the Widgets app, and the centered Start Menu with connections to the most recent files and apps are among the other novelties.

The new microphone mute icon is part of a Windows Insider release that also fixes a number of other bugs in Windows 11, including the File Explorer and taskbar, as well as search. If you really want to try it out for yourself, you can enroll your Windows 11 PC in the Windows Insider Program's Dev Channel. However, Microsoft has stated that not every Windows Insider will see this. Keep in mind that Windows 11 Dev Channel builds have a reputation for being unreliable.
