Embedded systems won't be a bad idea since there's high demand for electronic products.

Build portfolios, redesign existing apps, share it, join remote/on site free bootcamps.

Connect with people, that's one thing I didn't do.

Varieties of hardware, but the Arduino development boards won't be a bad idea for a start
