The NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, has on Friday held its interplatoon drills competition for the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 corps members with platoon 4 emerging as the winner.

The competition had in attendance the State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, Camp Director, Mrs Funmi Okundaye, Camp Commandant, Capt. O. Oyekanmi, Heads of collaborating agencies and other camp officials.

The Camp Commandant while welcoming officials to the program highlighted on the importance of the drills competition and why it was incorporated into the orientation program. According to Capt. Oyekanmi, the drills helps to instil discipline, endurance and tenacity in the corps members. It also keeps them smart and physically fit to face any challenge that may come their way.

Serving as the chief judge, LT. J. A Bello alongside other judges, LT. A Ahmed, LT. C Okpanachi and ASP. M. I Akintade. The Chief Judge laid out the criteria for judging which include: turn out, word of command, march past in slow and quick terms, eyes right and front, left and right turn, halt, review order, among others.

After the display of all forms of expertise by the platoons, platoon 4 came first, while platoons 2 and 5 came out second and third positions respectively with Platoon 1 clinching the 10th position.

Subsequently, trophies and cash prizes were given to the first, second and third positions, while the 10th position was given the "otondo" spoon to mark the end of the competition.

Other highlights of the competition was the demonstration of the unarmed hand to hand martial combat by selected corps members who were trained by the camp commandant. The combat display was led by Aminat Badmus with state code OS/21C/1447. The corps members displayed kicking, punching, self defense skills, power breaking, among others.
