Prior to 2015, many Nigerians were taking lots of things for granted. Even if you were dirt poor, you would still be able to eat well. Motorists can easily drive into a fuel station and fill their tank without seeing it as big deal. People could pay their house rents and children's school fees whenever it's due. However, today, all these have become luxury!

How many families can afford decent 3 square meals today?

How many car owners can fill their tanks today with ease?

How many people can their monthly salary sustain without having to start borrowing or buying things on credit before month end?

How many people can afford health care treatment in hospitals now?

How many youths are graduating from university and hoping they're going to find job?

Food for thought: Decently employed Nigerians with relatively good renumerations are also crying of hardship today. Then what's the fate of the unemployed and underemployed who constitute the overwhelming majority?

Before 2015, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was quoted as saying that poverty was a Northern sensation. And rightfully so, because while poverty was hovering in excess of 80% in almost all Northern states, particularly North West and North East, the South then was relatively comfortable with less than 20% poverty rates across all its states. Right now, many in the South can't afford to eat properly which is a basic necessity of man while in the North, disturbing pictures of people eating grass and from the dustbins have started emerging!

Worse still, there is no hope of a turn around going forward, and if anything, it appears to be moving from bad to worse then to terrible!!

So, I ask, what is the current poverty rates in Nigeria today, considering the dire situation everyone has found themselves right now?

It's better to remain dirt poor under Buhari than being super rich under Jonathan and his band of southerners. grin

Bandits are almost wiping out whole communities in the north and middle belt under Buhari, but we detest the rule of Jonathan even if it means no more terrorism.

Which fuel? I prefer buying fuel at #345 than Jonathan selling me fuel for #87.

We must sacrifice some things to make our country to progress.

If by the end of the day, if it's only 100 people that survives buhari, we will get sense small.

I guess it is about 99.4%, based on NDIC statistics. There only 0.6% of Nigerians able to afford $900 in their life. Let's assume there is a war situation, anyone with less than $900 cannot survive in 3 months.

Well, poverty has levels. Extreme poverty, the less than a dollar a day type of poverty. Around 50 percent of Nigerians are in that level. 2 dollars to 5 dollars a day kind of poverty, around 40 percent of Nigerians on that level. The middle class that drives a 20-year-old tokunbo car from abroad and pretends to be rich is around 8 percent of the population. The remaining 2 percent are the super-wealthy elite.

Buhari is working overtime to make Nigerians poorer, but hey so-called educated Nigerians campaigned and voted for Buhari in 2015.

Ndi "Buhari will tackle security while Osinbajo will handle the economy".

You people have not seen anything yet, let El-Rufai become the president. You people will cry your eyes out, blood will flow from your ears.

As usual, I am here to remind everyone. grin cool
