Now that you mentioned this, I remember reading an article that said the ancient Romans were racially tolerant.

As long as you were a citizen, regardless of your skin colour,you were treated right.

I admired that about them.

That was mostly true. Race/Religion did not feature in Roman society as prominently as it does in most diverse societies of today.
