Very good! City bus Stations belongs to the city.

Let touts go and farm, we need more hands to increase Cocoa production.

Ajimobi, give them farms on loan and give them subsidized fertilizers and also work hard to link road farms to the transport hubs. Make money out of these touts and jail the murderers.

51 years of nonsense is enough.

Violence: Oyo bans NURTW

Following the renewed violence recorded in the state in the last few days, the Oyo State Government on Monday banned the activities of the state council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers across all the motor parks in the state.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the State Security Council presided over by the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.

The governor read the communiqué released at the end of the meeting which was attended by heads of the various security agencies in the state, including the Police, Army, State Security Service, Immigration, Prisons and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Another round of blood shed, ajumobi shld look before he leaps. This is the major source of living for these hooligans and gangsters. Akala tried to control d activities of NURTW, but resulted in killings and murder. He should provide alternative for them.

There was a time the same union people were getting too busy fighting themselves in KD, arbitrarily increasing the fares and determining bus sops .this was getting too much for the state and the then Governor Markarfi did ban them it was so so peaceful after ther n at least for the three months period they were of the streets.I think what Ajimobi has done is a good thing.

Re: Ajimobi Bans NURTW Activities In Oyo State by tolu001: 10:24am On Jun 07, 2011
Ajimobi needs to adopt some of Fashola's policies here, he should establish an agency in form of LASMA to take over the control of the motor parks in Oyo state with stringent laws guiding their activities, rehabilitate some members of the NURTW that can be rehabilitated and employ such to work in the agency, take some to work on government farms and give them the necessary training, support and equipments needed on the farm.

The hardened criminals among them should be put in jail.
Re: Ajimobi Bans NURTW Activities In Oyo State by MMM2(m): 10:35am On Jun 07, 2011
banning is small 4 dere crime.
Re: Ajimobi Bans NURTW Activities In Oyo State by aribisala0(m): 10:48am On Jun 07, 2011
NURTW
Is a national organization, lawfully registered.

i don't support their violence but either through negotiation or going to court the ban will be quashed.

government can stop them collecting levies by force though.

ps

how come they haven't banned MEND OPC boko haram etc
Re: Ajimobi Bans NURTW Activities In Oyo State by anointedf(m): 12:09pm On Jun 07, 2011
Akala mishandle the whole thing to turn the table to his favour. He actually proscribe the union but appointed his goons to manage the parks. This is reason for the incessant violence witnessed during his time.

If Ajimobi will be fair and objective,

Let him handover the parks to the Local Govt., to be managed by neutral pple.

Let all free monies/levies impossed on drivers be stripped. This is the main reason for the killing and maiming.

@aribisala0

A court will not quash such a ban. There are valid legal reason to ban them. You realise that as a union, they have a constitution, and cannot operate in a way that endanger the peace and safety of the people, this they have done, unless you think changing leadership by guns and cutlasses and creating mayhem and insecurity for the whole populace is accepted under the law, therefore their ban is legitimate.
Re: Ajimobi Bans NURTW Activities In Oyo State by Anvaller: 1:34pm On Jun 07, 2011
Wait pls! I dont understand where all these kudos for Ajimobi are coming from. This guy did exactly what Akala did back then. ACN criticized Akala for the proscription, infact they claimed that he did not have the right to do so because NURTW was a legal entity that has a constitutional right of association and existence, as a result, they accused Akala of breaching the law by infringing on the right of NURTW. Akala defended himself then that it was the only way to curb their excesses he then ordered the local government committees to take over. Akala then accused the chairman of ACN in the state (forgotten his name) of aspiring to be NURTW chairman if not, why was he so concerned with NURTW issue. That was funny though!

I read Ajimobi's pronouncement very carefully, it is completely the same thing Akala did, no addition or subtraction. Proscription of NURTW and that the local government must take over the parks. Instead of people to begin to ask Ajimobi now that kindly explain why you decided to take a decision you have been critically against before u became governor. Just to let him know that hey! we have to be careful, the people are watching we can't seem to feed them with garbage, thats a check for him to sit tight. But instead, people began to hail him. Okay I will keep watching, for a lot of drama is still ahead.

are you the judge that will judge the case,does the constitution allow govs to ban groups.
did you see the id cards of the people that caused the trouble.

like i said the organization is registered in ABUJA not ibadan. banning means that if they meet they are engaged in criminal activity. the government may have the power to ban them de facto but not de jure in our laws governors and the president have no power to ban groups that is a legislative or judicial function

@aribisala0

No. I am not the judge. But the governor is the Chief Security officer of the state and has the constitutional power to stop any group that are deemed to be security risk from operating in his state. It is this power that was exercised.

It is easy for you to present this matter as a pure legal case in which the society as a whole did not feel this pain, unfortunately this is not, hence you are asking about the ID card of the perpetrator. For your information, police arrested several members (note the word) of NURTW so there is no issue about identity, unless the police now turned around and said they are not members of the NURTW. If you also care to know, this happened over a seven day period, not just one isolated event.

The quote in red in your last paragraph is the vindication of Ajimobi's step in this case, and lets see how NURTW will go to court and claim otherwise.
