Swollen feet are often underestimated because they are considered normal. Sprains and gout are often linked as the cause of swollen feet. However, apart from these two factors, it turns out that the cause of swollen feet can also be due to dangerous diseases.

Usually swollen feet caused by chronic diseases are characterized by long duration and often appear. If Mama Papa often experiences it, then this condition should not be underestimated, OK! Immediately consult a doctor to get the right diagnosis.

Well, in addition to sprains and gout, here are some causes of swollen feet due to diseases that are rarely known to people.

Blood clotting
The cause of swollen feet can be due to blood clots that occur in the blood vessels in the legs. Because this can make blood too late to flow to the heart. As a result, the legs become swollen. This condition is quite dangerous, especially if it is accompanied by pain, fever, and changes in the skin color of the feet.

Heart disease
Swollen feet can also be caused by heart disease; like heart failure. This disease can make the heart not to pump blood properly. As a result, the blood in the legs that should return to the heart cannot be pumped back.

If persistent swelling occurs; especially at night, it could be a sign of right-sided heart failure. Heart failure will also cause a buildup of salt and fluids in the body; including the legs, causing swelling.

Peripheral edema
This disorder occurs because fluid in the blood comes out of the capillaries, and accumulates in the tissues. Peripheral edema is caused by sitting or standing for too long, being overweight, hot weather, and menstruation in women.

Peripheral edema is actually not a dangerous disease. But in certain cases this condition can be a marker of serious problems, such as kidney failure, liver disease, or a marker of lack of protein in the body.

Kidney disorders
Kidney is one of the vital organs in the body that functions to maintain the balance of body fluids. Disorders of the kidneys will cause a buildup of fluid in the body, thus triggering swollen feet.

In addition to swelling, kidney disease is usually accompanied by other symptoms. For example, frequent shortness of breath, decreased appetite, fatigue, and infrequent urination.

Liver cirrhosis
Cirrhosis is a condition where the liver is damaged due to the formation of scar tissue. When a person is exposed to liver cirrhosis, the composition of the liver will change, causing its function to not work properly.

One of the symptoms of liver cirrhosis is the accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity which; ascites. Then the seepage of the fluid will spread to other body parts, such as the legs, causing swelling.

Infection
Infection is one of the most common causes of swollen feet. This usually occurs in people with diabetic neuropathy, where the nerves (especially those in the feet) are damaged.

Despite the swelling, a person with diabetic neuropathy will not feel anything in their feet. Because, sufferers experience a loss of sensitivity to taste sensations, making foot infections more likely to occur.

Drug side effects
Consumption of drugs can also be the cause of swollen feet. This is because the side effects of some medications will cause fluid buildup, especially in the lower body; foot. But it should be understood that not all drugs have this effect.

Some drugs that have side effects of swollen feet include: diabetes drugs, NSAIDs, antidepressants, blood pressure drugs, and drugs that contain hormones; including contraceptives.

If the swollen feet continue, even accompanied by other symptoms, you should immediately seek medical treatment.
