Ethiopian PM Delegates Duties To Deputy To Go To War's Front Lines by Cousin9999: 2:44pm On Nov 24, 2021 |
ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has gone to direct the war effort from the front lines, state-affiliated media reported on Wednesday, and Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen Hassen will take charge of routine government business in his absence. Government spokesman Legesse Tulu detailed the transfer of some routine duties in a news conference, the report from Fana news outlet said. Abiy announced late on Monday he was planning to personally direct the fight against Tigrayan forces and their allies. "Let's meet at the war front," he wrote "The time has come to lead the country with sacrifice." Last month Tigrayan forces and their allies threatened to march on the capital Addis Ababa; they have also been fighting fiercely to try to cut a transport corridor linking landlocked Ethiopia with the region's main port Djibouti. On Tuesday, U.S. Special Envoy Jeffrey Feltman said the Ethiopian military and regional militias had been able to hold back Tigrayan attempts to cut the corridor but Tigrayan forces had been able to move south towards Addis. Ethiopia's military spokesperson did not respond to requests for comment. https://www.usnews.com/news/world/articles/2021-11-24/ethiopian-leader-delegates-duties-to-deputy-to-go-to-wars-front-lines |

Same thing happened in Chad and they lost their President , who chose to be in the Frontline, to insurgents. It seems as though governance in Africa is still basic and African institutions are not strong. A prime minister in contemporary democratic arrangement has no business serving in the army. |

The general is a great patriot. He has been proving it since the 1960s. |

isaiah4life: President Buhari did his part, When were you born? Read recent history Buhari enrolled at age 19 in the Nigerian Military Training College (NMTC) in 1962.[16] In February 1964, the college was upgraded to an officer commissioning unit of the Nigerian Army and renamed the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) (prior to 1964, the Nigerian government sent cadets who had completed their NMTC preliminary training to mostly Commonwealth military academies for officer cadet training). |
