1. You don't yet have targeted audience. Look for targeted audience through visiting forums like Nairaland or News sites like daily trust or Facebook group.

2. You don't have a niche. Chinua Achebe focussed on Igbo culture. What do you focus on? If you are here today and there tomorrow, you will certainly lose your targeted audience. In fiction, we have niches that can be called genres eg. romance, crime, gothic, thriller, etc. In non-fiction, we have niches as follows: video games, politics, science, travel, cars, parenting, flora fauna, finance, selfhelp, pets, etc.

3. You don't review other people's work. Reviewing other people's work can make you a popular writer in no time. How? If you review people works, even if it's an article, they'll thank you and review your work in return. Someone will even invite you to submit your work to be published on a popular website. It was after reviewing people's works, George Orwel becomes a father of political writing. If you download his essays on Google, you'll see that most of them are reviews.

4. You don't want to write a pitch. Perhaps because you're afraid of rejection. Don't be afraid of rejection if you are a writer who wants to have a very wide range of audience. Writing a pitch will help you understand writing market. You'll soon begin to work with publishers and know how to streamline your ideas. It will teach you something I learned recently: UNLESS YOU WANT TO SELF-PUBLISH, DON'T EMBARK ON WRITING A BOOK WITHOUT HAVING A BOOK AGENT. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie cannot write better than you, but you can see she soon became a celebrity, why? Because she has agents. It's through agent that you'll have a book deal before embarking on writing. If your pitch can convince them, they'll accept the deal.
