Arguments on the contribution of women in politics have persisted for a long time now. While others argue, especially from a cultural and patriarchal background, that women’s role is mostly in the home, others argue, agitate and advocate for women’s right to contribute both economically and politically. This Project topic under review has considered Women and their political contribution in the fourth republic as an anchor to its research.

There is perceived gender inequality in leadership and political participation. As defined by the UNICEF, gender equality mirrors how women and men, boys and girls should enjoy the same rights, resources, opportunities, and protection. It is an advocacy to give equal opportunities to both men and women. This does not however mean that men and women should be treated exactly the same. This has resulted to several political movements advocating for women participation and involvements in governing councils.

As reported by the United Nations in 2019, there are about only 27 nation states where women can account for less than 10% parliamentary participation globally. Other women rights organizations globally laments on the neglect of women where political interaction, social concerns, and political decisions are made.

There are associated reasons to the relegation of women to the background in politics. One is chiefly due to the patriarchal practices in some societies, others include cultural background and orientation and societal constructs. The contribution of women in politics is mostly demonstrated during voting.

However, there are possible ways to intercept in this pending situation and improve women political contribution. They include, among others;

• Addressing gender inequality and opportunity in governance
• Documenting rules that protects women political rights to participation
• Guaranteeing equal access to quality learning to both men and women
• Providing capacity building training for female political aspirants and engaging them in decision making.

Anyways, there many underground issues surrounding gender equality and women’s active contribution in politics. This project topic has done and underground analysis.
