Age can vary from adult to child, but a good rule of thumb is that when your child can walk a few steps himself, it's about time for shoes. Your child does not need shoes to learn to walk.

Place your foot up against the wall, place a ruler next to it, and measure the length from the wall and even the longest toe. Remember that you must step on the foot being measured, and always measure both feet, there may be a difference! Alternatively, you can print our foot meter

Find the right size!
As your child is learning to walk, the shoes you buy should not be too large, as this will hinder the child's gait. Calculate approx. 1 cm in growth allowance, then there is both room to move in the shoe and to grow. Support around the ankle! A good beginner shoe or sandal should sit close to the ankle so that the foot does not swing up and down. Most beginner shoes go a little higher up around the ankle than a regular shoe. It supports the baby's foot and is a great help in the first steps and while the baby is still a little unsure of the legs.
