Biodigester Toilets
A biodigester toilet system utilises the anaerobic digestive process to break down and clean toilet waste – the result is less solid waste, relatively clean water output and the release of harmless gas into the environment.

The process of treating human waste with anaerobic digestion is not new – it has been practised at a large scale with the resulting water and gas products being used in further applications such as irrigation or as fertiliser. On a large scale, the process can also be used to produce a clean, renewable energy source.

However, it is only recently more people have started to release the benefits of bio digestion in domestic or smaller settings.

In a domestic or business setting toilets can be directly connected to a reactor chamber, which is also known as an anaerobic digester. Waste that goes down the toilet is directed straight into a chamber where the digestion process begins.

The system performs this function through these 3 steps:

Rapid Separation of solid waste from wastewater.

Aerobic Decomposition of the solid waste

Bio-filtration of the wastewater.

Upon entry of the solid waste and wastewater (flush water) into the small constructed tank, the solid waste rapidly separates from the wastewater.

Once that happens, the solid waste will be aerobically decomposed. What that means is, living organisms, which use oxygen, feed on the organic matter.

Then, the last stage of the process is the bio-filtration of the wastewater (flush water). The wastewater is filtered through layers of activated charcoal, activated chippings. The wastewater is filtered to remove germs and odour whereby make it colourless, odourless and free free from germs, so it won't contaminate your groundwater. Upon filtration, it seeps into the ground.
