Criminal law and civil law are two classifications of law that are dominant in society. As an instrument of justice, the law seeks to protect the interest of the state and society at large by prohibiting certain acts or conducts that are inimical to society.

The terminology used in a civil proceeding is not the same as that of criminal litigation. While the word 'guilty' is used in criminal proceedings, liable is a corresponding word in civil proceedings. Read more...
