Update from SIGGY .ng

Kidnappers are reportedly demanding N5million for the release of four students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, alongside five other travellers who were abducted.

The students were reportedly abducted along Abraka-Eku road, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.

The names of the students kidnapped were given as Arogbo Harriet Seyifunmi, Azunobi Prosper, Miracle Etavbwobor Robert (all 500 level students of the Department of SLT Chemistry) as well as Adegor Aghogho Happiness, a 500 level student of Electrical Engineering.

They were said to have written their final exams recently.

The identities of the other five victims have not been ascertained.

Meanwhile, executive members of the Students Union Government (SUG) led by the president, Comrade Solomon Mukoro, have condemned the abduction.

In a statement on Tuesday, the students described the abduction as shameful.

“The alarming abduction of students is very shameful to the state government and security agencies; that they have done nothing to stop the recent attacks on students and citizens after reports and official complains have been made about the Eku-Abraka expressway,” the statement read.

The students called on the Delta State government “to wake up, develop and deploy new strategies to deal with insecurity and kidnapping in the state, especially the recent kidnappings along Abraka-Eku expressway.”

They lamented that the lives of students of the institution are in grave danger.

The students’ leaders, however, urged all DELSUITES to “remain calm and not endanger the lives of the kidnapped persons, as we are doing all we can to rescue the abducted students.

“We are in constant communication with the Police department and state DSS, and we are working together with them to save the abducted students in the shortest time possible,” the statement added.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe, when contacted, said he was not aware of the abduction.
