But this was done in 1993, during Babangida era. What has really changed that won’t make it doable in 2023?

But is he not right?

Is Direct Primaries truly the panacea you people are painting it to be?

If it is, how did Andy Uba become APC candidate in Anambra through Direct Primaries but the people and other stakeholders has kept insisting that primaries did not take place and the courts have validated that?

Why was waste resources on an equally flawed process?

But should Buhari throw away the bath water with the baby? Why should he reject the entire bill because of one controversial clause? Why not ask the National Assembly to remove the controversial section of the bill so he could assent to the other good parts in order to improve the electoral process in our beloved country?

Isn’t that what he has done?

We should impression on the NASS to remove the controversial clause and re-transmit to the president let’s then see what he would do.

Until then, we are just making assumptions.

We were on course to have the best or near best Electoral Act until NASS scuttled it with that rubbish Direct Primaries gibberish.

I support the president for withholding assent to that nonsense.

People are claiming that the president withheld assent because of electronic transmission of result but the only way we can find out is for the NASS to quickly expunge that stupid Direct Primaries provision and re-transmit the bill to the president for assent.

Let’s see if he will still give excuses.

Until then, the president was right on this one.
it's the northern agenda. The new electoral bill will strip them off their electioneering dominance due to the illiteracy level in the region.

The direct primary was deliberately planted to rubbish the bill with the knowledge of the executive and the National assembly.

They know what they are doing.

That's not what he did. He didn't ask the National Assembly to remove the controversial section and send it back to him for assent.
He simply said he would not sign the bill into law because of the section on direct primaries.

Remember he did same thing in 2018 when Saraki was Senate President.

After the NASS passed the then Electoral Act Amendment Bill and transmitted to him, Buhari declined assent and pointed to some certain clauses he disagreed with.

The senate quickly expunged those provisions and retransmitted to him but he again declined assent.

That’s what they should do now. Let’s see if he would decline assent a second time.

If it’s a northern agenda, why are folks like Femi Gbajabiamila one of the prominent proponents of Direct Primaries?

It’s a political war between governors and federal lawmakers.

And like I said, when the NASS resumes from recess, they should quickly expunge the clause and retransmit to Buhari let’s see what his excuse would be this time.

And then get ready to slug it out with everyone because Nigerians will never take manual election in 2023...never. It will never happen. Get ready!

Well, in the murky waters of Nigerian politics, there seem to be lacking, the willpower to do what's in the best interest of the citizens.
Politicians always make it about them, relegating the needs of the common man to the background.
