Is Yahooflation One Of The Problems In Our Present Economy? by Opeyemiextra(f): 1:58pm On Jan 05, 2022 |
Good afternoon, everyone. For a while now, I have been hearing the term yahooflation and how it has contributed to our present economic predicament. What's your take on that? |

Have you thought about oil prices going down and the govt having to up prices to make profit? Don't you know how greedy big oil is in this Nigeria? They'll induce inflation just to make sure they make gains. Can you really explain the term "yahooflation"? I want to hear about that before I start to cap. 1 Like |

Nonsense, our inflation is caused by lack of adequate production, prices will keep going up. |

mediainc:That's the same point of the OP's theory. Lack of adequate production, yet there's a lot of illicit (yahoo) money in circulation. The result is unjustified price hikes in things like house rent, hotel room rates, pvssy, etc. If the money these yahoo boys are spending all over the place was generated from actual productivity, there wouldn't be such astronomical and unjustified inflation in these sectors especially. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

mediainc: Millions of dollars, that's billions of naira unearned money coming into the circulation every month through scam and fraud, what do you think would happen to our local economy? It means naira will keep losing its value and inflation is the price to pay. You have a point, so do Op unless you're one of the defenders of online fraudsters |

GetMeRight:It's a blessing if we even have more foreign exchange coming in, not defending fraud, but it counts in the "balance of payments"...if we have more dollars, it is a blessing to us, as we don't need to buy more dollars...the more we demand dollars from international market, the more our currency looses value. It's all about demand and supply, when demand is really high, it can push price up, and when you are not a producing country, it leads to inflation, government get paid via import taxes, but the economy suffers. 3 Likes 1 Share |

hedonido:Now you make sense. Inflation is caused by lack of productivity, taking our money out rather than producing and expanding our economy... the other type of inflation, is "cost pull inflation" 1 Like 1 Share |

Another angle you guys are not looking at is where CBN printed monies are going. CBN can generate trillions of naira out of thin air. This is the number one cause of inflation in Nigeria. Few are rich but many are poor. 1 Like 1 Share |

With high exchange rate and high import bills, imported goods prices skyrocket. The higher costs of machinery, raw materials, etc. Are passed down to the consumers who in turn raise prices of their goods/services to meet up with higher cost of living. That's just one angle of the crisis though 1 Like |

ceejayluv:There's a lot of "artificial inflation" due to hoarding of commodities by the greedy traders who want to make wild profits from price differentials. Commodity arbitrage is not a bad thing in entirety, but the greed from hoarders mixed with insecurity in key agribusiness spots, Covid-19 lockdown effects, and international geopolitical events have led to a vortex of rapid price movements. Period. 2 Likes 1 Share
