WTF?! 1,3-million rand (34-million naira) nightclub bill shocks social media users!

A picture posted on social media has gone viral over the weekend in South Africa of a bill from Lifestyle Brooklyn restaurant and nightclub in the city of Pretoria.

The establishment describes itself as a trendy place combined with music, delicious food and a good vibe.

From the receipt, it’s evident that the group had a feast and the time of their lives.

A portion of the N34-million was at least spend on food.

Some of the items they ordered include the masala platter (lamb chops, hake, prawns, ribs and wings), costing R650 (N17,000), and a full lifestyle platter, consisting of chicken drumsticks and wings, brisket and sausage, costing R550 (N14,500).

The picture of the receipt shows the majority of the bill came from the booze, particularly for the budget-buster Ace of Spade Rose champagne.

Ace of Spade has become a status symbol for high-flying club-goers, and is featured on many celebrities social media posts.

Lifestyle Brooklyn charges R10,000 (N260,000) for one bottle of Ace of Spades – and this table ordered 100 bottles.

But the extravagance didn’t end there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL0XmUwd86E

50 bottles of Veuve Rich, totalling R100,000 (N2,6-million), 20 bottles of Dom Perignon Luminous, totalling R120,000 (N3,1-million) and three bottles of Glenfiddich whiskey, totalling R28,500 (N740,000) were also ordered.

The waiter must have been very pleased, because the service tip of 10% was R124,995 (N3,3-million).

The grand total for the table’s bill was roughly R1.3 million (N34-million).

Twitter was divided by this extravagant and exorbitant bill, with some saying it’s someone with “new money” who is wasting it on alcohol.

It is widely believed the bill belonged to an eccentric Zimbabwean prophet, Passion Java.

Who is Passion Java? Zimbabwean ‘prophet’ behind R1.3m (N34m) bar bill.

If you’ve so much as logged on to a social media site this weekend, then you probably saw the wild antics of partygoers at the 012 Lifestyle venue in Pretoria. A whopping N34-million bar bill was racked up – and Passion Java was the man picking up the tab.

Allegedly, Java – who has become a multi-millionaire through his work as an eccentric pastor – was not in attendance on Saturday, but he had no problems with paying the seven-figure sum. Dozens of champagne bottles, expensive platters, and few drops of whisky featured on the bar bill.

Staff were left with a 10% service charge, too – meaning they picked up almost R130 000 (N3,3-million) between them. Passion Java does market himself as a philanthropist, but others have their suspicions about the legitimacy of his operations. So, who exactly is this ‘bar bill blesser’?

Personal details

Real name: Panganai Java
Age: 34, born 29 October 1987
Hometown: Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe
Marital status: Married to Lilly Java, divorced from Yasmin Java
Children: Four in total – three with Lilly, one with Yasmin.

Angel whisperer

We might have to take these claims with a pinch of salt, and no, there isn’t any proof to back up Java’s claims that he can talk with angels. However, it has been documented that the larger-than-life pastor started believing in his powers way back in the Fourth Grade.

He was strongly encouraged by his mother, who attributes the ability to ‘predict upcoming deaths’ to her son.

Televangelist

When he was just 25, Passion Java ended up launching Kingdom TV, which was facilitated by a UK network. This made him one of the youngest people in the world to own his own station, setting a domestic record in the process.

Record label boss

One hustle is very rarely enough for these celebrity pastors, and Java’s other passion outside of making God profitable is music. Gospel artists have been invited to record songs for at the PJ Records label, and the purported ‘prophet’ continues to blaze his own trail in the industry.

Politics

This may prove to be controversial, but Passion Java has openly campaigned for Zimbabwe’s ruling party, ZANU-PF. He has already endorsed Emmerson Mnangagwa’s bid for re-election in 2023, and the president has invited PJ to the state house on several occasions.

Bad PR

With any high-profile pastor, controversy follows them everywhere. It’s no different for Passion Java, whose lavish lifestyle is automatically a bone of contention for the critics. His Instagram page is full of flashy goods, properties, and vehicles.

His gun collection, which went viral on social media, drew a huge wave of criticism last year. He’s also heavily inked-up, but his tattoos have turned some ultra-conservative Christians away from his teachings.

Oh, and he allegedly performed a ‘miracle abortion’ on a woman who was four months pregnant. And that doesn’t usually play well with churchgoers…

Could the N34-million bar bill in Pretoria prompt an investigation by the taxman? Flashing cash is now a hazardous exercise in South Africa.

The SA Revenue Service (SARS) admitted earlier this year that it is tracing the social media activity of wealthy and ostentatious individuals. A large basis of the case against socialite businessman Hamilton Ndlovu in 2021 – who secured a R170 million (N4,4-billion) deal with the government during the pandemic – was centred around his Instagram posts.

The boastful businessman uploaded footage of his fresh fleet of luxury cars… however, when the taxman went to check his records, it was discovered that Mr. Ndlovu hadn’t paid tax on any of his new purchases. As the court papers will tell you, he was caught out by own social media page.

So, will SARS be tempted to have another look at the seven-figure bar bill reported on Saturday? That still remains unclear. Passion Java, the Zimbabwean pastor who allegedly paid the tab, is a very wealthy man – and N34-million could be loose change in his pocket.

However, there are plenty of people on social media who believe it will all end in tears for the self-proclaimed ‘prophet’. SARS may be tempted to look into the matter, but the last time we checked, having more money than sense isn’t a criminal offence. Not yet, anyway…

This one is eating his members dry..well this is what happens when you can't think on your own..
Some gullible Christians will be like God say you should give 10 percent nonsense of your earning to him..what?who told you your God needs your money..
Someone who was able to create you then what does he need your money for?
Keep giving to pastors while they keep getting richer ...

That this is linked to a "pastor" is so ludicrous.

Isn't Jesus the only intermediary between man and God? Why are "pastors" now taking the shine and members paying for it?
