Difference Between Mattress Warranties And Sleep Trials: Find Out! by Y4all: 10:47am On Jan 15, 2022
Anytime you purchase a new product for your home whether it’s a TV, washing machine, or mattress, it’s natural to think about what happens if the product becomes defective or does not satisfy the purpose of which it was purchased. For a product like a mattress, there are tendencies for confusion to arise between what a mattress warranty means and what sleep trials stand for in an event of damage or defect in the product.

However, for an industry with very competitive prices, brands are in a constant quest to meet the expectations of customers with various incentives such as sleep trials and warranties. With the avalanche of these incentives, customers are often less informed about the technicalities embedded in the two concepts.

This review is a conscious attempt to lay bare the nitty-gritty involved in these two concepts so as to give customers a better appraisal and understanding and of course what to expect in making a purchase.

What Is a Sleep Trial Period?
A Mattress trial period – also known as a Sleep trial – is something mattress manufacturers offer. Sleep trials are trial periods during which you can try out a mattress to determine whether its suits your personal preferences, feels comfortable, promotes good sleep, and so on. If you don’t like the mattress and you’re still within the window of the sleep trial, then you should be able to obtain a refund. Some companies offer a longer trial period, which allows for more time to “test drive” the mattress while some offer shorter trial periods. However, for us at Winco Foam Industries, we give our customers a 14-night sleep trial period.

What to look out for in the Sleep trial period
Trial Length: The sleep trial period must be clearly stated by the company.
Break-In Period:
Many mattress trials also include a required break-in period. A break-in period is a minimum amount of time you must try the mattress before requesting a return. This prevents customers from immediately requesting a return after one or two nights of less-than-ideal sleep on a new mattress.
Return Process: The return process typically starts when you initiate a return with a customer service representative. Most companies require mattresses to be clean and free of defects to qualify for a return.
Refund Type: Depending on the specifics of the policy or dependent upon a period of time, you may receive a full refund, or you may be responsible for covering shipping, handling, or restocking fees.

What is a Mattress Warranty?

A mattress warranty is a guarantee from the manufacturer to repair or replace a mattress with physical defects within a certain period. Warranties can differ by brand, retailer, and model, so it’s essential to understand the exact terms of the warranty of your mattress.

What Is Covered By a Mattress Warranty?
Mattress warranties do not cover all issues that arise. It only accommodates specific problems that may arise. Mattress warranties typically cover two defects, usually
Manufacturing Defect
Sagging and faulty manufacturing.

Factors That Can Void a Mattress Warranty
You may void your mattress warranty if the manufacturer can prove you’ve done something explicitly forbidden in the warranty, so it’s important to avoid these things if you want to preserve your warranty’s coverage. Some of the most common factors that effectively void a mattress warranty include:
Removing the law tag
Transferring ownership
Sagging below the stated threshold
Customer misuse (failing to use proper support, stains, rips, etc.)
Natural wear and tear
Stains, discoloration, or unsanitary conditions
Failure to flip the mattress on a specified schedule

How Long Do Mattress Warranties Last?
As a general rule, mattress warranties tend to last longer than the expected lifespan of the mattress in question. Most mattress lifespans are shorter than the warranty period by a year or more. Mattress warranties may range from 5 years to a full lifetime warranty, but the most common range is between 10 and 20 years.

Last Notes
Although mattress warranties and sleep trial policies can be somewhat confusing, when you better understand what they include, you can shop confidently, knowing your investment is protected. By and large, at the end of the day, just make sure that you are comfortable with what is being offered for the warranty and trial period. As well as being aware of what to expect. Especially if you end up in that rare case that you have a warranty issue or end up not being able to adjust to your new mattress.
