*It is not forbidden, he says after VP, Kano Gov, Plateau Gov seen wearing shoes inside mosque

A popular Muslim scholar, Sheikh Musa Yusuf Asadus-Sunnah has described as ignorant, few comments online condemning people who wore shoes while inside a Mosque in Kano yesterday when the Vice President, Prof Osinbajo, the Kano State Governor, the Plateau State Governor and the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy paid a condolence visit to Tudun Yola Quarters Mosque to commiserate with Muslim faithfuls on the loss of renowned Imam, Sheikh Ahmad Bamba Buk.

The condemnation of the VP and other dignitaries comes on the back of a picture circulating on social media which shows the dignitaries wearing shoes inside the mosque. However, Sheikh Asadus-Sunnah says the criticisms by a few persons on social media was based on ignorance and poor understanding of the holy books.

The Vice President who was in Kano for the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation Lecture, paid several condolence visits; one was to the family of the late Dr Bashir Tofa and another to the family of the late community leader, Alhaji Hassan Naif.

At the Tudun Yola Quarters Mosque, the residence of the Islamic scholar, late Sheikh Ahmad Bamba BUK, Prof Osinbajo prayed for the deceased family, and praised the late Sheik’s teachings, noting that his teachings were of peace, brotherliness, fairness and justice, describing him as one of the best known Sunni scholars in the world.

Sheikh Asadus-Sunnah stated that, “first, on the issue of the VP not clean to enter the mosque. That is not true. It is important for people to know what uncleanness (Najasa) means before saying the VP is unclean.”

“On the issue that he entered the mosque with his shoes on, who told them that entering a mosque with shoes is Haram (forbidden)? Especially when the shoes are certainly pure,” the cleric queried.

He went on to say that “it is certain that the VP didn't enter the mosque with his bathroom slippers. It is established that all the places he visited are clean and there is no way he could have stepped on uncleanness and entered the mosque with it.”

The Sheikh also addressed those attacking the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Sheikh Isa Pantami, that he should be criticized “based on facts and not emotions. You people that criticize him didn't do it based on knowledge but based on your ignorance.”

A large number of social media users expressed their opinion on the matter. For Umar Abba, he is of the opinion that “with my little knowledge in Islam, I think this is not a big issue. What we should ask is whether the shoes he is wearing are purified or not? If his shoes are clean enough and he didn't match any unpurified things, I think there is no cause for alarm. WALLAHU'AALAM.”

Making reference to a similar situation in the past, Alhaji Abu Hamdalat said, “it is not forbidden to enter the mosque with shoes so far it's pure from najasa. When General Gowon came to Sultan Sultan Bello Mosque and entered with his shoes, Late Sheikh Abubakar Gumi came to his defense that since the shoe is pure, there is no harm. That he Gowon is not "pure" but his shoes are,” he explained.

Fawaz Zakari Bello noted that other persons who went on the visit with the VP ought to have alerted him on what to do.

His words: “Why are we not shining the touch light on the hypocrite sitting around him who are Muslim & should know better. Are they playing to the gallery or worshipping leadership as against the norms of their religion? The laugh is on the people around him.”

Few people on Facebook and Twitter have conveyed their dissatisfaction at seeing the photo of the VP, criticizing his action, calling it “haram”.

Even though a cursory look at past photos of the VP’s visits to mosques on numerous occasions showed he removed his shoes without fail, indicating that the Kano incident was a one-time oversight.

The Sheik is right, it’s just unfortunate that many Muslims condemning that Osinbajo wore shoes to the mosque are ignorant of their Sunnah

Muhammad said you can wear shoes into the mosque!

We know it's Sunnah to wear clean shoes in the mosque. And it's not compulsory to do so.

Islam is becoming strange to those arguing against it.

Is it compulsory to remove your shoes inside the mosque? No

Same way it’s not compulsory to wear shoes into the mosque is the same way it’s not compulsory to remove shoes while entering the mosque

Funny enough, those arguing against it are your fellow Muslims who wanted to kill themselves because Osinbajo wore shoes into the mosques, that is why we decide to teach them as usual that the sunnah of muhammad permits it!

Islam is not where you can chook your holy spirited and abuse infested brain in.

Nowadays, it is better to pray in mosque without shoes as this can stain the carpets, rugs, etc. If the shoes are dirt free then it's okay to pray in them.

Pride goes before a fall. Is it holy spirit that is inspiring you here now?

How do you define the "strangeness"?

"My people perish because they lack knowledge" Hosea 4:6

It means Difficult to understand and explain, so your religion Islam is difficult to understand that is the reason why the author of Quran says you should seek for knowledge from the Jews and Christians

No rules of engagement in Church! Jesus did not build or pray in a Church!

So Buhari’s shoes could be dirt free and Osinbajo’s could not?

You’re claiming to be wiser than Muhammad abi? Didn’t muhammad know that “nowadays” will come before he allowed you to enter the mosques with shoes?

Are you saying that Muhammad’s words were only relevant to the people of the 7th century?

Your fellow Muslims blamed him and you also asked this question:

“And wetin Osinbajo dey find for Mosque? Mosque na for Prayer not Politics!”

But being an hypocrite that you are, you didn’t ask your Muslim politicians the same questions when they went to the church
