Mr. Ali and Miss Simbi have been Facebook friends for over 4years. Mr. Ali is a Nigerian who does business in Dubai according to him, processing visa for people who want to go to Dubai, then twice in a year, he visits his family in Nigeria and spend some time here.

Simbi and Ali have never met all these while but they've been chatting with Simbi having interest in traveling abroad to hustle after her Master's degree here. Simbi have been applying for scholarship but none has succeeded, so she decided to use other means to leave the country if the opportunity comes.

Ali usually posts photos of himself in Dubai, sometimes with people he helped relocate from Nigeria, their travel journey, etc. Once once, Simbi and Ali chat with Simbi always reminding him of her plan to leave for Dubai and how she's saving money.

Simbi lives in Abuja, and Ali stays in Lagos whenever he's in the country.
Last year January, Ali was in the country, he called Simbi and asked if she would like to go to UK, that someone just informed him of a UK slot, Simbi was so ecstatic and accepted the offer. Ali said the visa would cost Simbi about N1.5million without flight ticket or accommodation cost, with an initial deposit of N400,000. According to Ali, she won't go for any interview since it's a slot.

Simbi was so happy on hearing of UK visa, all these while, she's been hoping on going to Dubai if things work out well for her, not that she doesn't like Europe or America but because she was scared she might not have the financial requirement and others, thus she was hoping on working for a Dubai visa, but now an opportunity has presented itself for a UK visa.

Simbi discussed with 2 persons close to her, they asked her some questions and at the end, they decided to give it a trial based on Simbi's responses and her trust for Ali. She let them know she had never met Ali in real life but just Facebook friends and could trust him to some extent. When they considered the amount for the deposit, they felt well, one could risk it.

Ali requested for some of Simbi's information and she gave him via email including her passport photograph and a copy of her international passport. She requested to know Ali's office in Lagos or his home with his wife and children, Ali promised he would show her his home in Lagos. He requested Simbi bring the hardcopy of her International passport to Lagos.

So Simbi planned a journey to Lagos and embarked on the impromptu journey, taking leave from work.
On arrival in Lagos, she spent her first night in a relative's place in Ikoyi, Lagos, then the next day being Sunday, she waited for Ali in one of the eateries in Oshodi and they met there. They exchanged pleasantries and handed her international passport to Ali.

Then she requested Ali take her to his office, he said he has no office in Lagos, then she requested she be taken to his home to know his house, and see his wife and children. Ali said there would be traffic, she insisted on not minding. Being Sunday, there wasn't really traffic on the road but Ali insisted from the eatery to his place in Ejigbo, there would be traffic and that he had some clients to meet.

Simbi not having any engagement decided to follow Ali in his car to where he said his clients were. They drove to somewhere in Mushin, there Ali met with his childhood friends and they all went to a drinking bar. They ate and bought a crate of beer which he and his friends consumed and bought other drinks from 12noon till over 7p.m when Simbi requested to leave.

While in their company, Simbi was taking note of the time and studying everything happening there. Ali introduced her to his friends who were so chatty and let them know she came for a visa processing. Simbi at different time pleaded with Ali to take her to his home to know his wife and kids and also know his place of residence but Ali said there's no need for that, that she should trust him.

Simbi left them drinking in the bar around 7p.m feeling uncomfortable since the passport was with Ali. The next day she was to go to the ATM to transfer the N400,000 to Ali before she leaves Lagos for Abuja but she wasn't comfortable. She left Ali and his friends and went to another relative's place in Airport road to spend the night, while there, she told her cousin about her plight and her cousin wasn't comfortable too on hearing she only knew Ali on Facebook and Ali refused to take her to know his office or his family.

The cousin told her to call Ali and tell him she forgot something in his car, and ask where he was at the moment, because Simbi didn't know the name of the street the bar was. Ali gave her the description and her cousin drove her there around 9p.m. Even as at 9p.m they got to the drinking bar which seemed like a club too, Ali and more of his friends were with girls and drinking more. She excused Ali and Ali asked her what she forgot in his car, then she told Ali she came for her passport, that she's no longer comfortable leaving the passport with him.

Ali on seeing her cousin, quietly walked to where his car was parked, opened it and handed her the international passport and she left with her cousin.

That was how her business with Ali ended.
Two days later, she returned to Abuja.

A month later, Ali sent her a voice note saying his madam said he should beg her to do the visa, that she can pay only N100,000 as deposit and when the visa is out, she pays the complete amount, and that his madam was also blaming him for not showing her his house and family when she requested.

Simbi was no longer interested and didn't reply Ali.

Few days ago, Ali sent Simbi a photo of a passport with visa approved for a young guy. Ali said it was the guy and Simbi that they planned on doing the visa for before Simbi pulled out. Simbi had the contact of the guy before but had never called him. Simbi decided to disguise and call the guy, Simbi asked to meet him up as a long time friend but the guy said the date Simbi was calling to meet up with him won't be possible because he would have left the country by then. This made Simbi believe that the visa was true.

Now Ali told Simbi another slot has come and she would pay N1.7million for UK or France visa, Simbi is still insisting on knowing Ali or his colleague's office or Ali's house with his wife and children, Ali is not ready to take her to any of them.

What do you think about this? Should Ali be trusted by Simbi?

If it looks complicated to you, better don't do it.

One rule of success is to do more of what you understand, even when taking risks.

Don't make the mistake of hoping, be sure!

By the way, the man never introduced any madam to her before, did she?

No.
It was when Simbi was trying to negotiate the price from N1.5m to something lower that he placed call and started speaking Yoruba (which Simbi doesn't understand) and later claimed he tried pleading with his madam to reduce the price but she was shouting that the N1.5m was even too small and that he should forget about Simbi.

She should forget about that one, look for an established agency with physical address and government registration to do business with.
