There is no subsidy but corruption.

Buhari should remove the corruption. Or did he not come to fight corruption ?

We ain't removing a non existent subsidy so that commodity prices will sky rocket.

Besides, this government have removed subsidy three times. If they lied before, they may be lying now.

Any action taken on Fuel Subsidy removal must directly benefit the people, and not just a few wealthy individuals and their cronies.

Subsidy exists

It costs N282 to bring in one liter of refined fuel into the country

The same liter is sold at 162 naira at the pump

The difference between the two prices is paid by goverment as subsidy per liter.

And it has been that way since 1988.

Between 1973 and 1988, subsidy meant goverment paid part of the cost while allowing refineries make a profit. In today's terms, goverment would land fuel at N282 , marketer will propose selling at N350 , and out of that 350 govt pays N50, as subsidy

However since 1988, goverment has forced the petrol industry to sell at a loss and pays them a subsidy that does not cover the loss to help the poor. That's how it has been

If subsidy was not existent, you would have been paying 350 to 400 naira for fuel by now

This government have removed subsidy three times. Do a Google search then analyze the situation.

Basically when government claims to remove subsidy...they aren't telling the whole truth.

What they do is reduce the amount of money spent on subsidy, and that manifests as a price increase. Amounts may vary, and sometimes they do stop paying subsides as a whole.

For example

In 2012, landing cost of fuel was N99, and price at the pump was N65 (All prices per liter)

Government initially removed subsidy by rasing pump price to N140, but protests by NLC and by the folks that made up APC later on, led to prices being cut to N99 per liter.

Thus, subsidy payment...the difference between the landing cost and the government set price at the pump ...went from N34 to N2.

In 2015, the same landing cost of fuel went up to N132, and the pump price was now N87, meaning a subsidy of N45 up from N2 in 2012.

Plus oil prices, on which our revenue depends on, had gone down from $109 in 2012 to as low as $70 in 2015...meaning revenue for subsidy was falling

So, government increased prices to N145 meaning that subsidy payments went from N45 to zero...and thus things were okay till....

In 2017 landing cost of fuel passed the N160 mark, and government was paying subsides again to keep fuel at N145.

That's how subsidy removal works government style.

Subsidies have been removed multiple times. (This is a fact)

Did it ever result in improved investment in health, education, power and other infrastructure? (No)

What evidence do you have that if subsidies were removed now, funds will be targeted at infrastructure? (None)

Do subsidies need to removed no? (Yes, because Nigeria is facing perilous times and cannot borrow money to fund subsidies)

What effect would an increase in fuel prices have on Nigerians? (increased poverty which will lead to increased Insecurity)

Is there any remedy to Nigeria’s situation? (Yes, increase taxes on houses, cars, clothes, phones and other imported items. That is raise the VAT to 15 percent and then enforce property and sales taxes. This would put downward pressure on the demand for dollars, thus naturally will lower the price of petrol in naira.)

Nigeria is in perilous times

Subsidies have been removed multiple times. (This is a fact)

Partially removed, and always replaced when the cost of production got too high.
Plus, for subsidy removal to happen, government has to stop setting prices

Did it ever result in improved investment in health, education, power and other infrastructure? (No)

The aim of subsidy removal is to make the petroleum industry more profitable....and to reduce pressure on government spending. The economy needs far more work than that to improve, plus, taxes base needs to improve. (Fact)

What evidence do you have that if subsidies were removed now, funds will be targeted at infrastructure? (None)

That's why I always say...DEMOCRACY is hard work. Hold your government accountable. We all should.

Do subsidies need to removed no? (Yes, because Nigeria is facing perilous times and cannot borrow money to fund subsidies)

Yes they should.
What effect would an increase in fuel prices have on Nigerians? (increased poverty which will lead to increased Insecurity)

On the other hand, continued increase in subsidy spending, plus the fact that oil prices are never stable, and never where we want them means that we end up taking more and more in loans due to increased subsidy spending..on top of the fact that we don't earn enough from oil due to the oil price not being high enough in the first place.

And due to APC not divesifying the economy AND not even trying to raise our tax to gdp ratio (which is lower than Niger Republic self)

Yes.

Remove subsides
Raise the tax to gdp ratio
Fight corruption
Don't vote for APC or PDP next time
Diversify the economy
Accept the reality that we cannot pay for subsidises unless we raise enough income from taxes to pay for subsides.

Thank you.

P.S My opinion. I am not an APC or PDP supporter, I just think that these are what we need to do to make things better. And I am not in government or driving government policy either.

These governors are the ones pushing FG to remove fuel subsidy. And when they receive these huge allocations, they will still embezzle the money.

Is it that most Nigerians have short memory or what?
Fuel subsidy has been removed by this government more than once. But no one is taking about that.
