I was born and raised in Calabar, so I know a lot about Mary Slessor.
I know that it was her influence that helped to not only stop the killing of twins but also spread Christianity on this region.

Even to this very day, a lot of Cross Riverian's (especially the Efiks) are Presbyterian Church members.

I choose to look at it as good sense stopped the killing of twins. There were many Christians that came to Africa before Mary Slessor why didn't they stop the killing if it was the religion that had something to do with it?

This is one of the problems of religion, it attempts to contract good sense to external otherworldly forces and inadvertently robs people of their motivation towards reasoning because it makes them satisfied with crystallised thoughts. It's the same cause why Africa is backwards or was even backwards when these Europeans came. We are too quick to yield up the reasoning process to reach for soothing platitudes.
