The officials of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) have sought the support and advice of the Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Sunday Oge, in the management of Parents’ Forum in their University.

They made the call on Friday 28th January 2022, during a consultative visit to AE-FUNAI to study the modalities and internal operations of the University’s Parents’ Forum.

Speaking on behalf of the FUTO team, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Clifford Agu, noted that the visit was on the behest of their Vice-chancellor, Prof. Nnenna Oti who is awed by the infrastructural strides being achieved by the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike through the support of its Parents’ Forum.

Continuing, Prof. Agu maintained that though the team was made up of a professor and other eminent people, they were in the University with open mind in order to learn, adding that the achievements the AE-FUNAI’s Parents’ Forum has recorded were worthy testaments that could be replicated in their own University.



While also speaking during the visit, the Chairman, FUTO Parents’ Forum,Chief Chidi Nkwopara stated that the purpose of their visit was to learn from the University the best practices for managing a Parents’ Forum in order to replicate same in their University.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elom noted that since the establishment of the University’s Parents’ Forum in 2016, it has contributed immensely in bridging some infrastructural gaps in the university, adding that the Forum became necessary because it dawned on everyone that government alone cannot adequately fund university education in Nigeria.



He further stated that apart from the general Parents’ Forum, the University also has Parents’ Forum at the faculty level. This according to the Vice-Chancellor is helping to meet the peculiar needs of the faculties.

Highlighting some of the projects the Forum has embarked on in the University, the Vice-Chancellor said the Forum constructed the Medical students’ hostel, some buildings in the staff quarters and water boreholes, equipped the engineering workshop, and are presently concluding the perimeter fencing of the campus, in addition to many other worthwhile projects.

He therefore assured the FUTO team of the University’s readiness in providing them with the needed assistance for the smooth take-off of Parents’ Forum in their university.

Other members of the FUTO team who were at the university include,Arc Nnamdi Nwokorie, Director, Physical Planning and Development, Pastor Ateh N. Nwankwo, treasurer, Nkwocha Omeni, PRO, Ogbonnaya Godwin N., Financial secretary and Madu Kennedy I, SUG President.



The event was also witnessed by the executive of AE-FUNAI Parents’ Forum led by the Chairman, Engr. Chidi Onwe Ogah
