Lagos population is grossly underserved. Lagos needs at least five more Universities.

True but its not the job of government to create jobs.
Their work is to create an enabling environment for job creation. A business friendly environment attracts investors, and entrepreneurs who establish industries that employ individuals.

Good road network, steady power supply, security of lives and property, access to raw materials, effecient regulatory agencies, reasonable taxes, access to capital and low interest rates are where the government should focus their efforts...and then jobs are created automatically

You are right however there is need to develop a sound system of education which entrepreneurship is part of in order to have a sound system of education.

Those people matter tire person. And that is why i just run comot for lagos when i did. The problem is their motives. They do not go into government to serve the people and improve their living conditions. All that one no just concern them at all.

Na to go steal all they can and some more, save some up for next election and maintain their private army of criminals for another election cycle.

Thank God there is a sensible person to say this.

More universities are needed because the capacity of current universities is not enough to meet the growing demand from the expanding population.

Those shouting entrepreneur this and that, the US is the capital of entrepreneurship. Yet the US has close to 15 universities or more in some states, 1 state.

You don't ignore demand for education because people are jobless - and not everyone would or is capable to become entrepreneurs.

What would have piqued my interest would have been if someone had argued about the quality of education that would be provided at these universities

When are you people going to understand that Governments, in the modern era, do not/cannot provide jobs?

SMEs, that people like you can set up and nurture, provide jobs. They are the lifeblood of some of the best economies of the world like the UK.

I don't think these guys understand how human capital investments works

Make university education free and see real growth, if you like build 2000 universities a month, if they aren't optimizing their facilities, they will fail

You need more people in schools not more schools

I think you are talking to yourself. Almost every Nigerian is rude and keen to belittle others without understanding that they are actually ignorant.

How many nations in the world do you see offering free education today? Those who used to do it, like the UK, have stopped because it is financially unsustainable.

If the rich UK can repeal her long-sustained free university education model then do you think it is sensible for Lagos to attempt it with all the attendants cost to begin with salaries of teaching staff?

What you're suggesting is for the sixties when we did not have enough graduates. Today graduates, many with even masters, yapa without jobs.

Go and find out the unemployment rate of Nigerian graduates then come back to argue why Lagos, with scarce resources and limited finance, should educate more graduates free of charge so they can sit at home jobless in their parents house 5 years after graduation.

Nigeris is even better off with colleges of specialist vocational skills tied to employers in the construction, hospitality, IT, Engineering industry etal that can employ young Nigerians immediately they complete their studies.

We should then merge every complementary effort with a serious and sincere attempt to grow the SME sector.

Those are the sort of things we should be doing not training more graduates, free, for jobs that do not exist. Every Nigerian is an Einstein in their own pocket whereas they actually know next to nothing.

what do you know about scale?

You can't just throw a few examples and say look it doesnt work, that's shallow

University is free in many European countries, my thinking is simple, attending universities shouldn't be a privileged thing, I hated university, it was my worst educational experience, I expected much more but it was underwhelming and this was an expensive good school, some people might like it and can use it to excel, replacing me with such people is better for the society, because of pride certain ideas that are profitable will always look beneath me but a guy with the right motivation can dip his hand in the mud and become very rich, let people go into education motivated by their passions and see ideas grow, it's not bad to have a well educated society, the benefits are endless

yh I understand what you mean but there are some advanced country that' their government provide job's for graduate, and even undergraduate .and the SMEs you talking about one must have fund's bfr starting up he/she must work as an employee to get funds to start up how can one start up SMEs without fund's
