The Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has admonished the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for getting his priority wrong by exerting energy to spread lies on the Shonga Farms loan issue in which the state suffered no loss to the neglect of numerous issues threatening the lives, livelihood, and peace of the people of the state.

In a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Tunde Ashaolu, the PDP noted that in his 32 months in office despite the various sad occurrences in which people lost their lives, jobs, their houses, and in which the state has come under attacks by insurgents and other criminals, Abdulrazaq never deemed it necessary to address a press conference and he is planning to address one this morning because he thought he could blackmail his predecessors in office.

“While we await the outcome of his maiden press conference specifically being organised this morning on the loans procured by Shonga farms in which the state holds 20 percent equity, we want to state that if the Kwara State Governor and his key aides knew their onions, they would have taken appropriate measures to save the state property from any threat.

“It is not possible for the Kwara State government to use any property as collateral for any form of loan. Also, Kwara State is just one of the five shareholders in the Shonga Farms and if the company defaults in the payment of any loan, why is AMCON not attaching the property of the four banks that also hold shares in the company? AMCON’s lawyers in the new unethical practice that we now witness chose Kwara State as a soft target knowing that the people in charge of government are not only ignorant but they are also ever ready to play politics with every and any issue.

“ The right thing should have been for the government to defend its property by going to court to join issues with AMCON. In any case, the case is still at the court of the first instance, and even then the matter has not been decided at that level. There are still two appellate courts where the matter can be contested.

“The party will adequately and appropriately respond to any issue that the Governor may raise during the press conference. We are prepared because we have all the facts and we know the then governor when Shonga Holdings was incorporated did not do anything wrong.

“What we are witnessing today is the kind of wicked, uncaring, ignorant, insensitive, and manipulative person heading the government of Kwara State. This issue is his priority because he thought he could use it to blackmail his predecessors and once again spread falsehood. We hope he will today admit that Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has no share in Shonga Farm contrary to the earlier lies he and his cohorts had been spreading”, Asahaolu stated.
