2023 Presidency Will Determine Igbo’s Stand In Nigeria – Ohanaeze by Ebubu4: 8:00am On Feb 15, 2022
The President-General of the Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof George Obiozor, has said that wherever the country picks its president from in 2023 will send a strong message to the Ndigbo.
He affirmed that the status of Ndigbo in Nigeria would be determined largely by where the 2023 president emerged from.
The group asserted that to avoid the potholes of the past and to secure the future and preserve national unity, the Nigerian political elites must avoid the prevailing political myopia and contrived amnesia surrounding Nigerian political history over the imperative of North-South rotation.

Wherever the country picks its president from in 2023 will send a strong message to Ndigbo,” Obiozor said in a statement he issued in Owerri, Imo State, on Monday.
“I understand clearly the dilemma faced by these leaders but Nigerian politics is at a point of no return where national destiny is at stake and where patriotism and political wisdom must supercede personal ambition.”
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General explained that Ndigbo as an ethnic nationality was blessed with a large number of capable, Nigerian patriots and credible personalities who were eminently qualified to govern the country and meet the expectations of the citizenry through equity, justice and fairness.
“Indeed he or she will bring into the office, an amazing sense of peace and harmony to the country, ensure imperative of national unity and commitment to good governance with dedication, decency and decorum.
“Since 1960, Igbos have been campaigning for their rights to leadership in Nigeria. So anybody who says that we have not campaigned enough about the ‘2023 Igbo President’ is guilty of historical fallacy because many of us know how often those rights and opportunities have been denied or ignored with impunity.
“How can one be accused of making noise over marginalisation or discrimination in critical areas of Nigerian Politics and at the same time accused of not making enough political campaign for the 2023 Presidency? Ndigbo has not campaigned for any relevant national political office since the end of the war. Most Nigerians with conscience and patriotic as well as friends of Nigeria inside and outside the country know this to be the truth.”

"Since 1960, Igbos have been campaigning for their rights to leadership in Nigeria."

This part weak me... sad

There's no rights to leadership in Nigeria, it's either you work hard for it or you fight for it. You can't be sitting there waiting for zoning...it isn't done that way.

I come in peace.

If you like go and stand outside, nobody cares.

Presidency will never be zoned to your village. Come out and fight for what you desire. Bring out your candidates and mobilize voters for them. Be ready to face other candidates from other parts of the country. You have gotten the human resources, you have very brilliant sons who have proven themselves capable, you also have the financial power. So, come out and fight for it.

If however you are waiting for the Presidency to be zoned to your village, then you will wait for long because we the Yorubas will snatch it from you and you will cry blood.

When Obasanjo became President, presidency was not zoned to his village. Obasanjo contested with and defeated Alex Ekwueme, Abubakar Rimi, Odumegwu Ojukwu, Muhammadu Buhari and some other clowns. Yorubas did not wait or ask for the Presidency to be zoned yo Yoruba villages just as we are not asking now neither are we telling any clown from any part of tbe country not to contest. We are contesting, others too should contest.

You all know our candidates already, it's either Tinubu or Osinbajo. So, be prepare to meet us at the polling booths and at the rigging room.

Going out and trying to convince voters that your preferred candidate will make their lives better, rather than angrily demanding that they vote for your candidate simply because you deem it "your turn". The Presidency is meant to be a service role on behalf of the entire Nigerian electorate, not a means of "rewarding" any particular region in the name of "fairness, equity and justice" [sic] by granting them free reign to loot the public treasury for a few years. If you can't be bothered to put forward candidates who understand this much, don't be surprised when voters reject them for others who at least try to explain how it will benefit the voters rather than their own "kinsmen".

Two faces without a particular direction same story since 1967 reason why they fought civil war they want to gramb power true the backdoor without normal procedures threatening upon threatening accusing and tarnishing people image just to get power by all means.

In the process to get power by all means they formed security agencies to be killing national guard they said they don't want to be in Nigeria again but they dont stop collecting allocations neither they stop using public service.

Again the game is on they don't have candidate that well accepted within or outside the country later another person will emerge as a president the ranting will continue.

Even you saying these know you are telling white lies. So Buharri, Jonathan and Obasanjo were elected on merit? We all know these men are not worth leading a local government area, except Obasanjo. But when it comes to anything concerning Igbos, you guys will hypocritically want the rules straightened.

You don't intentionally sideline a group and keep telling them to go and learn how to play politics. When babangida and Abacha sidelined the South West, nadeco was more virulent than ohaneze in this kind of politics. So keep your advice to yourself..

Stop milking the Nigeria-Biafra war titties.. You should be tired of doing so by now. It's 2022! That was 1966!!!
Igbo officers were not the only group that organized a coup. Gideon Orkar did and even cut off the core north from the rest of Nigeria, yet nobody is killing The Tiv people today because of that. Buka Suka Dimka did and even killed Murtala in the process, yet I am sure most Nigerians don't even know his ethnic group! You project an ethnic agenda into Nzeogwus coup, because dude was Igbo. You're the one suffering from tribalism here and not Nzeogwu or the igbos involved in that revolution..

You're as thick as a brick if you can call blazingly obvious facts I've laid out for you "white lies". Why the hell, as a voter, should I pick a candidate who can't be bothered to sell himself to me, who can't be bothered to make any promises to improve my life (even if the promises are lies) over someone who makes the effort? What the hell is in it for me as a non-Igbo to vote for an Igbo candidate whose single stated agenda is to allow his fellow Igbos to go on a 4-year looting and nepotism jamboree at Aso Rock?

If you can't be bothered to try to answer these obvious questions, don't be surprised that all your blackmails, threats and moans about "fairness, justice and equity" are ignored for the self-serving nonsense they are. Nobody who isn't already an Igbo chauvinist is going to pick up their PVC card and stand in line on election day to elect an Igbo tribal champion, no matter what you and your ilk say and do. But I'm sure even someone as slow on the uptake as you realises as much, which is why you're so eager to bypass the democratic process entirely, by getting a few elite politicians in the two main parties to simply "zone" their presidential candidacies to one of your "kinsmen" without any competition whatsoever. Too bad for you that will never, ever happen.

Well said.

A few years ago, I once wrote that Igbos fall into 3 categories.
1. Those that want BIafra (mainly the artisans and such)
2. Those that want restructuring
3. Those that want a core SE man to assume the presidency in 2023, after many decades of Igbos not controlling the executive powers of Nigeria.

Already, the Biafran proponents have been making their feelings known and are spiritually no longer linked to Nigeria. But because these people are not the most educated set, they are restricted to being led by half-baked people who don't have what it takes to meander through the global political stage as it stands. This group is also being hampered and undermined by the activities of the Igbos that want the 2023 presidency.

The group that wants restructuring also see Biafra or Lower Niger Republic or the Ikenga nation as a restructuring exercise. They also envisage a properly restructured Nigeria. One thing they are against, is the status quo. So to this group, it is either Nigeria is properly restructured, or we all go our seperate ways.

The group that wants an Igbo man to occupy the presidency in 2023, is the group that practically controls the economy of Igboland and the elite. They are also the academics of Igboland, and people with varied global experiences in economic, political, diplomatic fields.
If 2023 comes and goes without an Igbo president, this group will now have nothing to loose. They will team of with the Biafran group and the restructuring group, and possibly lead the agitation for Igbos to break away from Nigeria. This agitation will be well financed, and led by the right sort of people with the skills and international exposure to carry it out. The current IPOB agitation may look like a child's play, compared with the agitation that will follow, in 2023.

I don't envisage any 2023 presidency, having what it takes to pacify the coming agitation. What can such a person possibly tell the Igbo nation? That they will get the presidency in 2027? What then is wrong with Igbos getting it in 2023? The agitation will be unquenchable.

Any president that emerges in 2023 will never be perceived by the Igbos as a peace-maker. The person will possibly be seen as enemy number one. After all such a person will be deemed to be aware of the injustice against Ndigbo and still went ahead to take a presidential mandate that should have been given to a deserving Igbo man, just the same way Ogbonnaya Onuh stepped down for Olu Falae in 1999.

Any non-Igbo president in 2023 will definitely be holding unto a poisoned chalice.
