The United States Department of Justice has maintained that only President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime can provide reasons disgraced and suspended DCP Abba Kyari has not been extradited to the U.S.

“As a matter of policy, the department generally does not comment on extradition-related matters. We defer any questions about the status of a defendant’s extradition to the foreign country,” Nicole Oxman, a spokeswoman for the DOJ, said in an email to Peoples Gazette.

The comment came in response to enquiries from The Gazette after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) declared Mr Kyari wanted for drug trafficking.

Justice minister Abubakar Malami had disclosed on Channels TV that Mr Kyari, fingered in the Ramon ‘Hushpuppi’ Abbas’ multimillion-dollar internet fraud scheme, may be extradited to the U.S. to face charges. However, Mr Malami did not provide a time frame for the process to be completed.

Mr Malami explained that Mr Buhari’s regime was collaborating with the U.S. government on Mr Kyari’s involvement with Hushpuppi. According to him, both countries had been “discussing and collaborating and there are exchange of correspondence from the perspective of investigation, from the perspective of extradition and associated things.”

Since the FBI uncovered Mr Kyari’s involvement in the multimillion-dollar internet scam by Hushpuppi and his syndicate, three separate panels had been set up by the police to examine and reexamine the case filed by the FBI against him.

The Gazette had reported the position of the Police Service Commission (PSC) which emphasised that Mr Kyari be immediately dismissed and prosecuted.

Last week, proceedings at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court concerning the arrest and extradition of Mr Kyari was stalled as the presiding judge was absent. The matter was adjourned until April 4.

A group under the aegis of Northern Peace Foundation had approached the court to stop the police and the attorney general of the federation from arresting and extraditing Mr Kyari.

In September 2021, After court filings by U.S. prosecutors declared Mr Kyari at large, police minister Maigari Dingyadi said only Mr Buhari has the power to determine the disgraced deputy police commissioner’s case. These comments were quickly refuted by legal experts, who said it was more of an attempt to help Mr Kyari escape justice.

Yup! Nigerian government and politicians are ingenious when it comes to evil and bending the law.
If this country is one that works, Kyari would be in the US facing charges, Buahri, Gowon, IBB, Abubakar etc would have been tried and convicted in The Hague, Tinubu would be in prison, Pantami would be on an intelligence watch list and his career in govt would be over, Orji Uzor Kanu would be serving at least 20 years, Fashola would have committed career suicide, Nigeria would have been prepping for a referendum to save lives, Boko haram would've been a thing of the past etc

Had it been it was a Yoruba person involved now, the PSC would have dismissed him/her from service (without any benefit) and govt. would have extradited the person that very week the news came out.
Imagine PSC that could dismiss a female police officer from South for getting pregnant without being married. Now compare with how they are handling the case on ground now.

The Northerners are just using islam, hisbah and whatnot as cover, those guys are as. morally corrupt as their counterparts down south if not worse.

You know all these things about them yet you support them. Ever since you decided to tag along with them, what has been the Nigerian trajectory on all sectors barring population growth. I wonder what you will tell your children in the nearest future with regards to your current choice of decision.

The main reason why FG will never extradite Abba kyari is that the guy knows too much about the present Government and if he gets tried and found guilty, he won't want to go down alone .....
He'll definitely mention his collaborators (many of which are holding positions in this Government).
