The Anambra State Boundary Commission has resolved the boundary dispute between Ogidi and Abate, all in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The commission headed by the deputy Governor of the state, Dr Nkem Okeke, commended the role played by Chief Sam Anyawutaku, for the lasting peace in the area.

This came 50 years after series of land dispute between Umuezeobodo Ajilija Ogidi and Umudunu Agbaja Abatete on the boundary.

Our Correspondent gathered that members of the Anambra State Boundary Commission at the Deputy Governor’s office were present to mark the official settlement of the dispute where the communities embraced peace to pave way for meaningful development in their areas .

In an address, Governor Willie Obiano who spoke through the Deputy Governor and Chairman of Anambra State Boundary Committee, Dr. Nkem Okeke regretted that land dispute had taken a dangerous turn across the country.

He recalled that Chief Sam Anyanwutaku, an illustrious of Ogidi, had brokered peace between Uruorji Ogidi and Mgbuke Village Umunachi in 2018, and stressed that demarcation was merely for administrative purposes.

The President General of Ogidi, Chief Nelson Onubogu cationed the community members against selling the lands which had the ability to destabilise the peace initiative, just as the President General of Agbaja, Ernest Ekunie who represented Chief Law Okoye, reiterated that they were peace loving people.


A prominent indigene of Ogidi community and Chairman of the Reconciliation Committee, Chief Sam Anyawutaku who lamented that the land dispute had hindered progress in both communities, thanked God and the state government for bringing the much needed peace, adding that he considered the peace overtures which he initiated as service to man and prayed God to bless the communities while calling on everyone to embrace the peace.

Prayers were offered for the enthronement of peace in the communities.
Official commissioning of the boundary and placement of monuments as well as musical performances were highpoints of the ceremony.
