Been reading and digesting a lot of stories about this issue.
It is quite interesting to see people beat about the bush and follow the disinformation been spread about the basics of war.
Let's take some points into consideration:

Kingdoms are kingdoms whether you call it country, world powers, or whatever it is still a kingdom.
What is happening is the renegotiation of the balance of power between world powers, and the only power in this world is money.

World economy trades in USD, been so snice the change from gold standard. Because of this America has used this opportunity to print dollars at will and shift inflation to other countries. Of recent the frequent use of financial sanction to spite governments which are not loyal has made a lot of countries to think twice about settling their countries account in dollars. Turkey, India have started doing this that is why they can buy crude from Iran and not be hit by sanctions on such trades.

For a while now, the balance of trade has been moving away from the west (US) to the east (China& Russia) Russia been the biggest supplier of gas and a top supplier of crude, China the biggest commercial/manufacturer in the world.

Snice 2013 Russia has been working on its own settlement system same as China.

If you notice the initial grudge is their area on influence. The US knows that Ukraine is in Russia area of influence, not because of the old USSR, but because Russia is the biggest commercial and economic supplier in that region. With the Nord stream 2 pipleline coming online, it will also bring Europe into the area of influence of Russia whereby they will have to settle trade in Russian currency and exclude the Americans out of any way whatsoever to influence it.
Nord stream 1 which passes through Ukraine has been a major source of revenue for them in terms of pipeline rights and even cheap gas, cannot join NATO. All parties know this, so it is time for sabre rattling.

The current force which Russia has amassed is the biggest mobilization for a single country, and to do t at this amazing speed is a Big shock for the US.

150,000 strong infantry, Moblie missile launchers, anti aircraft batteries all latest models, massive T-72 tanks she me of the biggest in the world, not to talk of fighter jets, bombers, frigates, submarines and so on.

Behind them is the surpport structure for feeding, medical facilities, transportation, logistics and administration.

Bills on fuels, bullets, movements, e.t.c and Russia is not blinking an eye about the resources spent.

If I were the US, I would be screaming.

They now have to move missile batteries back into Europe along with technical staff to start training alot of the NATO allies which they dumped Durning Trump's time, but the problem is still the same as then. World inflation.

The US can't print money as before because inflation in the world today is astronomically high, GDP disparity between NATO members is a big shame, and most importantly nobody wants another US led intervention, only to be left like Afghanistan.
Things are so bad economically that the US has to take half of the Donations made to Afghanistan to pay reparations to 9/11 victims.

Hence the Push.

Ukraine by now is looking for a way out of this mess. why? Their economy is in shambles as Russian roubles and gas is no longer coming in. International flights from the west have stopped. The president even played a fast one and said today is the start of world war 3, yet NATO can't raise a finger, instead they are waiting for after the attack.

Russia has been pushing, and really pushing.
Mali and Burkina faso now employ the Wagner group, so does Libya and Chad.
China is pushing with it's belt and road initiative and throwing billions everywhere for free.
Even Nigeria is a partner in China payment settlement system.

So expect to see more wars and rumors of wars everywhere,........ After all the biggest business in the world today is war.
