WARNING: Here's What You Need To Know About Studying In Cyprus Before Applying In 2022...

I would like to consider the possibility of studying abroad in Cyprus for Nigerian university students and discuss the relationship between students and study abroad advisors who seek Cyprus as a relevant and meaningful study abroad destination.

First, let's look at what is recognized as a barrier to studying abroad in Cyprus:

1. Few Nigerians know much about Cyprus.

Let's learn!

Most people who know Cyprus love it
Cyprus is a modern and prosperous EU (European Union) country and should be known to Nigerians

2. Because Cyprus's native language is Greek, many Nigerian students and study abroad advisors may misunderstand that non-modern Greek students cannot study at a university in Cyprus.

Let's learn!

yes, the official language of Cyprus is Greek, however, maximum of the populace is multi-lingual and English is usually spoken as a 2nd language
Schools like Cyprus International University makes use of English as their official language (Except for the school of Education)
non-Greek speaking college students can without problems navigate the university, the network and journey in the course of Cyprus in English

3. Cyprus has few universities.

Let's learn!

until 2008, there was only one (1) university in Cyprus

in 2008, four private colleges were awarded university-level status by the Ministry of Education

Schools like Cyprus International University was established over 25 years ago on the U.S. higher education structure and function academically and administratively parallel to most U.S. universities.

4. Cypriot institutions have not promoted themselves to the Nigerian study abroad market.

Let's learn!

Until recently, when Organisations like Jaysmart Ventures, Fixa Global Services and a few others went into partnership with Cypriot Universities, there was little publicity of Cyprus higher education to the Nigerian college student market
These Organizations currently helps hundreds of Nigerian college students gain admission to study at the Cyprus International University each year.

5. Because Cyprus is a two-community society divided by the United Nations Demilitarized Zone, some people may consider Cyprus a dangerous place.

Let's learn!

Cyprus is a democratically stable country, a prosperous member state of the European Union, and has not experienced violence related to the status of the two communities since 1974.

As an ideal learning lab for students, Cyprus' Bi-Community Status is a great place for students to learn about international relations, active UN negotiations and nation-state divisions in a stable and non-violent society.

6. Cyprus is so close to the "Middle East" that some consider it to be an Arab country, while others consider it to have security issues related to the "Middle East" countries.

Let's learn!

Located in the Mediterranean Sea, Cyprus is a close ally, neighbour and friend of Greece. Cyprus is considered a "Christian" nation, and the majority of Cyprus follows Orthodox Christianity.

Geographically, Cyprus is closer to Israel, Egypt, Turkey than its Western European counterparts.

Politically, economically and internationally ... Cyprus is a member of the European Union and therefore culturally prosperous Serves as European society.

Cyprus has a long and diverse history of life at the crossroads of European, Middle Eastern and North African civilizations. Therefore, benefiting from culturally diverse perspectives, it exposes the average Nigerian student to a Mediterranean crossroads not found in many of the usual Nigerian gathering destinations.

Next, we will look at some of the important factors that all students should consider when choosing a relevant study abroad program.

1. What are the academic options available?
2. Can I earn academic credit that will add to my degree plan?
3. Do I meet the eligibility requirements of the program?
4. Will the cultural experience be relevant to my academic, personal, and career goals?
5. Do the student support services meet my needs?
6. Can you afford it?
