Binance Smart Chain (BSC), the cryptocurrency exchange platform, has announced it is changing its name to BNB Chain. According to a press statement, the name change is part of efforts to create a link with Binance Coin, its native coin.

BNB Beacon Chain (formerly Binance Chain) and BNB Smart Chain (formerly BSC) will make up the BNB Chain. BSC is compatible with the virtual machine on Ethereum. It executes smart contracts and provides a gateway to other blockchains.

The BNB Chain will consolidate all its Web3 work under the MetaFi umbrella. This consolidation will connect metaverse developers and projects in GameFi and SocialFi.
It will also help the platform scale and provide large-scale applications and developer tools to increase the validator set from 21 to 41. The ecosystem coordinator at BNB Chain, Samy Karin, says this will be financed by the $1 billion the exchange had raised.
