What else but mismanagement, lack of care.
In fact, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that someone may have pocketed funds meant for the feeding and care of the poor animal.

We have lost our souls in this country.

Which funds? Was elephant in their budget in the first place?

poor animal

it was traumatized at the treatment meted to it, probably died of a broke heart

it is known that elephants are highly intelligent and even mourn their dead for long periods of time

What a very daft post by Abisola Alawode!!!

How did this fooool conclude that its transportation to University of Ibadan has any link, or is even the major contributing factor, to the death of the Elephant?

Why are Nigerian "yoots" this dumb?

Nigeria has failed both man and animal. Any good thing they touched, dies off. What a country

There are few people who benefit from Nigeria, and therefore believe that Nigeria can still be repaired. They put out the false message that Nigeria shall be put to the path of development; unfortunately. These people lobby the Oyibos to continue to force one Nigeria.

When piece see exotic animals in Nigeria and eat them, I don't blame them because our zoos are animal mortuaries and poorly run.The animals will starve.Go to OAU zoo on Ife and see how sick the lion is.Better to die than starve so badly. They surely don't have the expertise to look after the elephant, now it's dead.

To the OP, so what beats you in the decision? They should leave it to roam about or take it to your house?

There are wildlife parks were the elephant could have been taken to. There it could definitely fend for itself.

Remember that Jolly elephant that was spotted in Oyo State weeks ago? He's dead.

He died in the custody of experts from Uni of Ibadan after they and the local govt chairman of Saki West decided to transport it to a zoo.

Why would they take that decision? Beats me.

Now, lets eat it........................... the meat go plenty pass 2 cows

Re: The Elephant That Was Spotted In Oyo Dies In University Of Ibadan Custody (Pics) by steinalb(m): 2:39pm On Feb 18, 2022
Tranquilizing an elephant for a very long time is very wrong and it might end up not waking up. Once Tranquilized, the elephant's body loses the ability to control its body temperature and heats up from inside. What a painful way to die.

It also loses the ability to control the closing and opening of its nostril. The white will usually use a small stick to wedge the opening of the nostril so it won't close on its own thereby suffocating the elephant.
