A learning System is the system that encourages learning among it's people. It is a system that promotes exchange of information and creating a more knowledgeable, conducive and flexible attitude in the system. The same is true that it will encourage a flexible attitude that accept and adapt to new ideas and changes through a shared vision in the system.
It will be observed that, the very importance of learning was first introduced by Chinese philosopher, Confucius-(551-479 BC). In fact he believed that " everyone should benefit from learning." According to him, "Without learning, the wise becomes foolish ; by learning, the foolish become wise" . And " Learn as if you could never have enough of learning , as if you might miss something".
It will be observed that, the very underlying cause for emphasis on learning, is simply that it increases the space of change in any system or organisation.
Taken for instance, that classically, work has always been thought of as being conservative and difficult to change. And learning tends to be divorced from work and innovation come to be seen as the necessary but disruptive way to change.
Any system that is able to 'learn and innovate', no doubt, will be able to make the necessary charge,and indeed, if it is a corparate body, will be able to charge their work practices to perform better in what looks like a constantly changing environment. Take ISO and SON, for instance.
It will be observed that, now, change is measured in terms -of weeks and months, no longer in years as it were in the past. In the corparate world, the term is "business- re- engineering" is used to focus on the elimination of waste and not working smarter and learning.
Not long ago, there arise this "concept of System Thinking" of which Gould- Kreutzer Associates, Inc., define as- "A framework for seeing interrelationship that exist rather than just things; just to see the forest and the trees".
As it were, this simply means, that the organisation or system need to be aware of both the system or organisation as whole as well as the people or individuals within the system, as the case maybe.
It will be observed, that often, the contrary has always been the case of which the system or organization, often tends to concentrate only on their own needs and profit and not the needs of the people or individuals that makeup the system or organisation.
Currently," the System Thinking" is trying to Change this perception in the "Learning System"so that the system or organisation strive to include the ambitions of the individuals or people, not just that of the system or organisational goals and this no doubt, could inject some basic and necessary difference to our charging world of today.
