Chess is a wonderful game that entails patience, positioning, tactic and opportunity. To some people, it’s a hobby that lets them put on their thinking hat, to others, an opportunity to flex their mental muscle and show their strength as king of the palace. But can this be equally said about puzzles; are puzzles good for chess? For someone who wants to get better; are puzzles a good way to improve in chess? Let’s find out.

The most important advantage of solving puzzles is that it improves your pattern recognition. The tactical puzzles you'll be solving will most likely come from real games, real on-the-board scenarios that have been seen, tried, and solved. However, Puzzles can't substitute the experience gained from playing real chess games because they usually only teach a specific type of chess situation.

Puzzles generally, help to improve memory, planning, testing, and problem-solving skills. if you’re someone who just learnt how to move a chess piece, familiarizing yourself with chess puzzles is a good way to get better at the game.

Are chess puzzles really useful?
Grandmasters still solve chess puzzles because it helps improve tactical intuition. In other words, it aids you in recognizing more patterns and doing so more quickly. This is critical since you'll be able to not only recognize when you have tactical possibilities in any given situation, but you'll also be able to prepare your pieces for them. Tactics in your games won't always appear out of nowhere; you'll have to plan ahead of time.
