In clubs like real Madrid, Bayern and recently city, there's a system in the club, called the winning at all cost system.
This is a system or mentality that enables the club to want to win at all cost,,, NO player or manager is allowed to go against this system, not even the greatest player in the world. Once u re not in line with this system, u re relegated to the bench or sold immediately before u become a virus.
Now, under sir Alex Ferguson, man UTD had this system, that's y united can win the title with a below average tom cleverly, welbeck and so on. Problem started wen Fergie retired, then Woodward (a dunce in football) came in as the sporting director. He started running the club for financial gain and left the footballing aspect to suffer,, he bought commercial players like pogba, di-maria who didn't like the club but came in for the cash...
Since then, the hierarchy of the club were only interested in that top 4 position more than trophies. That was y van gaal was sacked cos he didn't get them their normal target even though he won a trophy(fa cup) and was building a team that wanted to play
