Bankole's brother in court over visa scam  News     Sunday, June 26 , 2011 Abeokuta – The absence of Mr Adedotun Akinmade, the counsel to Toyin Bankole, on Friday stalled his ongoing trial over alleged visa scam at an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates' Court. Toyin Bankole is the younger brother to Mr Dimeji Bankole, the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives. At the resumed hearing of the suit, a letter written by Akinmade conveying his inability to be in court was read. The counsel, who had in the letter claimed that he was indisposed, however, promised to continue with the case at the next adjourned date. He prayed the court for a short adjournment, while hoping that his health would permit him to appear for his client. The police prosecutor, Paul Etusi, had called eight witnesses and informed the court that he was ready to open the case for trial before Akinmade's letter was read to the court. Etusi told the court that he was not objecting to Akinmade's prayer for a short adjournment. Bankole, alongside one Segun Baruwa, had been appearing in the court since January 2009 over an allegation of fraud. Etusi, a police inspector, on Jan. 15 told the court that the accused conspired to commit fraud by collecting money from Modinat Odunlami with a fake intent. He said the accused collected the money under the pretence that they would help their victim and her daughter to secure an overseas' visa and admission. In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Peters Kolawole granted Akinmade's application and adjourned hearing till Aug. 2. (NAN)
