Nigerians like you feel that without a University education they will die poor or they won't breath well.

I have seen University graduates that cannot write properly or speak good English. The fault of this category of people is not the Universities they attended, it is the Primary and Secondary schools they attended.

How can someone survive in this era if they can't write or speak well?

We lay too much emphasis on University education in Nigeria.

This has led to so many half baked graduates chasing non-existent jobs.

The cheapness of this Universities has reduced the quality of Education.

For how long will ASUU keep going on strike?

Do you know why on most vacancies you see things like "with 5 years experience"?

It's because a lot of Nigerian graduates are low quality, you cannot employ them straight out of college.

University Education in Nigeria is too cheap.

Nigerians will complain that ₦70,000 is too expensive to pay for University education but go to Ghana or Benin Republic and pay from ₦300,000 and above.
God bless you brother.
You're just on point. I have been privileged to meet Professors outside Nigeria. You can hardly see anyone with more than one car or one house. All the professors I know in Nigeria have more than two cars and two houses.
I don't understand; they keep comparing themselves with politicians and I keep telling them resign and go and contest.

I like your logic. But there will be a serious problem afterward. Countries that give students loans try to increase employment rate to enable the students get jobs after graduation so those students can pay the loans. Naija no go increase employment rate. How the students go take pay the loans?

Quality education will produce students that can build businesses that employs from 100 to 10,000 workers.

As Nigerians take like fufu reach, a food technology student cannot start a business that deals with making fufu in powder form and exporting to the world. Once they graduate, Na to dey find job for Promasidor and Nestle.

Quality education gives you confidence. With that confidence, you can borrow money and start a business without fear.

Here, graduates are scared of starting businesses because they are not sure of themselves.

What is evident is that No government can satisfy ASUU.

If it’s about fixing the university system which we know there’s alot of room for improvement let the issue be stated which I think it has and let the monies needed to fix be disbursed and monitored so we all see the improvements.

I trillion just like that .. what have they done with the one they collected.. every segment of our national system is corrupt

Let me tell you a story:
The government approved a certain amount of money to construct a two storey block of classrooms and office complex in 2013. They didn't release the money till 2019.

The work on the complex was completed in 2020. Now the building was poorly constructed with tiles already removing. No furniture and the fitting was poor because inflation had taken place between 2013 when the money was approved and 2019 when it was released.

Do you still blame ASUU for this? How many of this are we aware of?

You forgot to mention the school fees of the Non-ASUU universities. ASUU is the only reason people can still afford Federal University education. And thanks for advertising Edo University. Medical students there currently pay 1.5M as tuition. Conditions determine our Choices.
Re: ASUU Demands ₦1 Trillion From FG To Suspend Ongoing Strike by Oloh4Life: 12:02am On Feb 28, 2022
That's exactly what ASUU is trying to prevent. Without ASUU our universities will lie in ruins like the Primary Schools, with the only choice being Private Uni that are not affordable for the masses.

The problem with federal universities in this era@PMB is the appointment of Mallam Adamu Adamu, since covid 19 pandemic the sector supposed to have been restructured for effective service delivery if you like give ASUU N1trillion it will only extend time spend on beer parlours, gisting time and copy-copy research publications will still remain, had ASUU complaint about how mediocrities are pushed into the system in the name of employment,No,what about victimization of diligent and hardworking staff,No.

It is funny how our biases towards ASUU have eclipsed our rationalities. Have you ever asked your selves why there are no foreign lecturers teaching in Nigeria?
How many foreign students have you seen in Nigeria universities?
How many researchers come to Nigeria for post-doctorate program?
Is it that the lecturers are bad? No
The answer is that Nigeria education sector is grossly under funded. Lecturers are not well paid. How do you attract foreign hands with the pea nuts they are paying lecturers?

Do you know the bone of contention in 2009 FG- ASUU aggrement?
ASUU wants Africa standard of payment of lecturers. Nigeria government has been sitting on this agreement they freely enter with ASUU for eleven years.
For the past 20 years, the Nigeria budget for education has not exceeded 8% against the UNESCO minimum standard of 26%.
Despite these anomalies, some Nigeria Universities have good presence in Webometric status.
Do you know that PhD holder who is a lecturer 11 earn between 125-130 thousand naira?
Lecturers 1 with over six years of experience earn between 145- 160 thousand naira?
A professor earn less that 800 dollars.
Out of this paltry sum, you are expected to publish articles, attend conferences which are required for promotions.

Go and check what lecturers are paid in Ghana, Tanzania, DR Congo, south Africa you will be utterly shocked.

This is exactly what happened in primary and secondary education sector that no body put their wards in public primary and secondary schools again.

Every time what you hear is that there is no money. Does the life style of our politicians justify that claim? The answer is no.

Ur opinion.. Am not in support for everything being cheap..

I have always supported fuel and power subsidies removal as this in it self has brought stunted growth in both industry and of course most countries don't subsidize this commodities..
But u see education.. Government has to step in.. It one of the aspect of a nation Government has to significantly invest in and ensure all it citizens are properly educated.. Can u imagine a country with very little education.. What do u think is the problem of the northern part of Nigeria and their root cause of all their woos... all of Nigeria's major problem ranging from kidnapping, terrorism, extreme poverty, corruption, no home training, reckless birthing of children, almajiri.. U mention it ..all exist cuz of lack of education..
And in all this u insist Education should still run as a business?..
Toh

Looking at the standard of living.. GOVERNMENT CANNOT LEAVE EDUCATION TO FULLY RUN AS A BUSINESS especially tertiary...

primary and secondary education should be guaranteed free vocational and tertiary remained heavily subsidized...
How many developed countries leave their public institutions to run for profits..

Your Opinion#

Read and comprehend. Government spending should go on scholarships or bursary directly to the students That is a smarter way to use the money. That money will not go to everyone but on merit? Why should government fund faculties and departments that have no payback prospects? Government can make those bursaries loans and whe the graduates start working they pay back slowly. That is more sustainable

Vocational education is a greater priority than university education

Quote me anywhere UNIVVESITY IS NOT FOR EVERYONE if you want to go to university you should get a scholarship or pay for it
Tertiary education as we know it in Nigeria is outdated in terms of curricula and employability of the products. It is a waste of money]Government has to operate SUSTAINABLY. Are you telling me the current arrangement with intermittent strikes and disruptions should continue?
We have faculties of Engineering all over the country. How many Nigerians have supervised any major projects of Julius Berger?
If you are educated as you project it is a simple question What is the cost of quality university education . This is an actuarial question. Once we have those figures we can juxtapose that with available resources
AND with a population of 200 million can we afford it
Giving people admission and keeping them somewhere for 3 years and then giving them a degree is not education it is self deception
I am saying government should hands off universities completely .They cannot run them efficiently. That is the reality

That's a lot of money.
less than the revenue of Oxford Universty

If we invest in quality universities they will earn revenue for the country
With a population of 200 million we must recognize University education is a luxury for those that can afford it.
Government should provided scholarships and bursaries targeting areas of economic need . We do not need to subsidize people studying things with no economic viability

Government should focus on vocational education and university degrees that are guaranteed employment
We needs skills skills skills
People who can build houses that do not collapse, Carpenters who can make furniture that attracts good money people who can make things that people actually spend money on like phones and TVs and cars .
University education in Nigeria does not transfer economically . useful skills
Do we even produce lipstick in Nigeria.

What we need is a PRODUCTIVE work force not meaningless certificates

Honestly u guys should observe something here, but ASUU and fg are playing politics with students. ASUU knows very well that fg will not be able to pay that kind of money in thus election period. Also fg wants everyone to vote in their respective states believing that atleast 50% of the students have their voters card.
So even if they call off the strike now before election they will still strike. APC government is the worst so far
