South Korea’s foreign ministry announced on Monday that it will strengthen export controls against Russia by prohibiting the shipment of strategic products and will join Western countries in blocking some Russian banks from using the SWIFT international payments system.

“As a responsible member of the international community, the Korean government condemned Russia’s armed invasion of Ukraine and decided to actively participate in the international community’s efforts, including economic sanctions, for a peaceful resolution of the situation,” the ministry said in a statement.
