Ondo State government has returned some schools to their missionary proprietors.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu made the disclosure while receiving the newly inaugurated executives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ondo State chapter led by the State Chairman, Rev. Father Ansel Ologunwa.

He named the schools to include St Thomas Aquinas College, St. Louis Girls Grammar School, Akure and two primary schools.

The military administration of David Ikpeme seized missionary schools in September 1976.

The governor said his administration approved the return of some schools to the sole missionary ready to take them back.

In a landmark policy reversal, Akeredolu said, “We have promised that we will return schools to missionaries and we are keeping to our promise. It is only the Catholic Church that has shown interest.

“A group of people are opposed to it. Our position is that, if you are not interested in taking ownership of your school, don’t discourage others."

“Catholic Church has requested for two secondary schools and two primary schools and I have approved it. They are sorting it out now and there is no problem. Aquinas College, St Louis, and two primary schools. Those are the ones which we have approved. We are not running away from it.”

This is a big blow to HausafulaniKanuri Muslim North

Yakubu Gowon did this evil after the killing of Gen Ironsi as requested by the Caliphate. The beginning of mass destruction of secondary education nationwide.

Today, private schools have taken over everywhere

Islam be like if we can't have it then let's rubbish it.

It's the only reason why they won't want government to return the schools back to the owners.

A very good step by the Ondo state government other states to kindly follow suit. Our government is never serious with education.

What this report fails to mention is that it was at the behest of that Northern puppet, Gowon that all missionary schools were forcefully taken over by government. Thus were the seeds laid for the gradual decline in the quality of public school education in this country.

Lol, this is not a win win for any religion but a lose to many average citizens. Once the school is fully returned to the owners, government stopped funding thee schools with taxpayers money and the school take full responsibilities of the day to day activities of the school. To balance up and meet standard, school fee will be legislated and skyrocketed above the means of many students' parent. The affected parents (mostly Christians cos of their population) will be looking for another government school (which is probably missionary built) to enrol her child.

A question to a reasonable Nigerian not religious sentimental people, who lost??

The same happened in Ogun state and saw schools with population of thousands reduced to below 500.

Good.

Those illiterate military boys were disasters.
Rather than build their own schools, they were busy stealing existing
ones which they can't even manage.
