What do you mean by saying it contravenes the Constitution? Wasn't government appointees resigning previously before contesting for elections? Didn't Wike and Co resign as ministers under former President GEJ to contest for the elections?

The electoral law forbids them from voting and or participating in the party primaries or party conferences as delegates. Resignation is not the matter. The legislators are attempting to "legislate the constitution" in their contest for control with the executive especially governors.

Please be aware this was introduced by APC legislators and not fully supported by PDP members and the court case to force this to be brought to the floor was instigated by PDP legislators, these legislators are in a tussle with governors and senior executive appointees who they see as possible contestants who can unseat them.
