I watched the other day on one of the US cable news networks, where Donald rump was berating Joe Biden about his stands on the invasion of Ukraine by Putin. He was very clear on his assessment of Biden's reaction to the on-going war. Biden has acted like a scared "little boy". He didn't say those exact words, but pretty much that's what he meant. Biden's use of sanctions against Kremlin was at best very weak and embarrassing. Putin, he said was used to sanctions, and that so using sanctions at this point would rather embolden him. He's got a country for the taking, and so any form of sanctions would have little or no effect on Russia. Why sanction a country whose action is presently making her even richer, literarily. As the Russia-Ukraine war rages on, US and western Europe are still patronizing Russia's crude oil. Prices are soaring above $100, and Putin is steadily smiling to the bank. Does the US really think that at this point, and with so much petrodollar flowing into Russia right now, that Putin is in any way thinking of stopping this conflict any time soon. Your guess is as good as mine. Even the EU seem to have no reasonable response to the rampaging Russian forces. After practically egging on Zelensky to engage the Russians, they seem to have left him to his fate. What was the need railroading Ukraine into the EU, if the EU knew they wouldn't be there to support her militarily? Why cajole a rather inexperienced comedian-turn-politician to engage in this suicide mission? Putin gave an ample amount of warnings via his speeches and actions, that he would not tolerate any NATO/US encroachment anywhere near Russia's borders. He didn't mince words about what he was capable of, hence his earlier annexing on Crimea. He made several contacts with Kyiv on the dangers of befriending the EU, but they all fell on deaf ears. And when it was too late, did we see Washington rather "warning" the world of Putin's imminent actions. I mean, it was clear for everyone to see what was coming. Russia rolled in, and Ukraine is in complete chaos, hundreds of thousands fleeing to neighboring countries, most parts of Ukraine now in ruins, more incursions and destructions of the rather once stable state, no serious military assistance in sight, and Putin is happily smiling to the bank. Now this should serve as a lesson to any country that is turn in between powerful entities like Russia on one side and EU/US on another. Thread carefully, and master the art of balancing your allegiance to both powers. Or better still take more seriously the threats from the power that clearly shows you what they are capable of, than the one that just makes promises. The US's sanctions is just dumb. US's crude oil imports from Russia is less than 10% but EU's demand is much higher. It is hypocrisy forcing EU to cut Russian oil demand realizing that these EU countries do not have an alternative for now. Biden wants to use his pseudo moral sanction to enforce economic sanctions from EU. Idiots. When Trump warned EU of dependence on Russian oil they laughed at him. Now they are whining like idiots. Imagine Biden presiding over a country with enough oil to be a net exporter but instead is pandering to green new deal socialists and now seeking to get oil from Saudi and Iran. The same Iran whose general, Qassem Soleimani, was slaughtered by a US drone strike. Biden and Harris are about the most idiotic pair in the history of politicians. |
