Biden begins his address outside the Royal Castle in Warsaw.

He describes Poland as a great ally and thanks the country's leaders for their welcome.

'Ukraine stands strong'

Biden says one year ago Russia's President Putin "unleashed his murderous assault on Ukraine".

He goes on to say the global principles that had been the cornerstone of peace for more than 75 years were put at risk.

“One year ago, the world was bracing for the fall of Kyiv. Well I’ve just come from Kyiv and I can report Kyiv stands strong," he says.

'All democracy was tested when Russia invaded Ukraine'
He says the whole world and all democracy was being tested when Russia invaded Ukraine.

The question they faced was would they respond or look the other way.

He said one year later we knew the answer - the world did respond and it would not look the other way.

Kyiv stands proud, tall and free, Biden adds.

'We stood up for democracy'
Biden goes on to highlight how it is almost one year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but makes it clear "we stood up for democracy".

He adds he had the honour of saying in Kyiv to President Zelensky on Monday that he would "stand up for all these things".

Yesterday, the US president sent a clear message to Russian President Putin that he was "dead wrong" about the war.

NATO 'more united' as a result of Russia's invasion - Biden
"Democracy was too strong for Putin," Biden continues.

The Russian leader has ended up getting the "Nato-isation of Finland and Sweden", the US president says. He adds Nato is "more united than ever".

The fear of potential Nato expansion was one reason Russia launched its invasion.

Biden says that while Putin thought the West would depend on Russian energy markets, they instead found other markets and worked alongside the US to end dependence on Russian fossil fuels.

“He thought autocrats like himself were tough and leaders of democracy were tough and then he met the iron will of Americans,” Biden says.

Biden pays tribute to courage of Ukraine's president
A man holds Ukrainian, Polish and US flags before US President Joe Biden addresses the public during an event outside the Royal Castle, in Warsaw, Poland, on 21 February 2023.

Biden is now speaking about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky - he says his courage has been forged in fire and steel.

Democracy in the world has grown stronger, not weaker, but the autocrats of the world have got weaker, Biden adds.

He adds that knowing what you stand for is most important and knowing who stands with you makes all the difference - and the people of Poland know that better than anyone.

Biden now shows his support for the "brave leaders of the opposition", including those of Belarus and Moldova.

He says he is proud to stand with the "freedom loving people" of these nations as their fight in "gaining independence put them on the path to EU membership".

Support for Ukraine 'will not waver' - Biden
Putin "still doubts our conviction", Biden says.

But the US president insists that the West's support for Ukraine "will not waver".

He and his allies "will not tire".

Freedom is at stake - Biden
US President Joe Biden delivers remarks ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, outside the Royal Castle, in Warsaw, Poland, on 21 February 2023.

Biden reiterates Nato’s commitment to staying united to ensure “Putin’s craven lust for land and power will fail”.

The US president says: “Putin no longer doubts the strength of our coalition, but he still doubts our conviction.” He adds freedom is at stake in this war.

'Autocrats must be opposed'
Biden is speaking again now about Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He says Zelensky spoke about his country's children, and how Russia's war will shape their future, and their grandchildren, and generations to come.

He says we're seeing again today what the people of Poland saw for decades - the appetite of autocrats.

Autocrats must be opposed, he says.

He says they only understand one word:"No, no, no!"

Biden says Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia
Biden is now sending another message to Putin as he warns "brutality will never grind down the will of the free".

He adds "Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia, never" - which is met with applause from the crowd.

Biden makes the message clearer with another strong sentiment of how "free people refuse to live in a world of hopelessness and darkness".

Biden pays tribute to 'extraordinary' response to Ukraine's plight
Biden now goes on to detail the alleged abuses committed by Russia during the war.

These include using rape as a weapon of war, Biden says, and an attempt to "steal" Ukraine's future by taking children away from their homeland.

"No-one can turn their eyes away," he says. "It's abhorrent, it's abhorrent."

But he says the response of Ukrainian people and the rest of the world has been "extraordinary".

Ukraine remains 'independent and free' - Biden
Ukraine is still "independent and free" despite Russia’s efforts, Biden reminds the audience.

“From Kherson to Kharkiv, Ukrainian fighters have reclaimed their land,”
he says.

He adds Zelensky’s government was democratically elected and still represents the will of the Ukrainian people. He also notes that the UN general assembly has condemned Russia’s invasion.

Biden says West not plotting to attack Russia
People look on and wave flags as U.S. President Joe Biden delivers remarks ahead of the one year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, outside the Royal Castle, in Warsaw, Poland, on 21 February 2023

Addressing the people of Russia directly, Biden says the West was not plotting to attack Russia and that the war was never a necessity, but it is a tragedy.

He says President Putin chose this war, and he could easily end it.

If Russia stopped invading Ukraine it would stop the war, but if Ukraine stopped defending itself it would mean the end of Ukraine, he says.

He says that's why Ukraine is continuing to receive support from its Western allies.

Biden pays tribute to Polish help for Ukraine
Biden now lists how the EU has stepped up with unprecedented commitment to Ukraine - not just in security assistance but economic and humanitarian assistance.

He says: "I'm serious, take a look around and look at one another, look at what you've done so far, Poland is hosting 1.5 million refugees so far, God bless you."

He pauses as the crowd cheers and then talks more about Poland's generosity towards Ukraine.

Biden praises 'Ukrainian patriots'
The president continues his speech reminding the gathered crowds that the US’ commitment is to “the future of Ukraine” which he says is free and sovereign.

But the gravity of the human losses in the war is also highlighted by the US president.

He praises those who have lost their lives in the Ukrainian war fighting for freedom, and calls them “Ukrainian patriots”.

Biden paints a picture of his own land - where people "stand for freedom". He says Democrats and Republicans alike have got behind the Ukrainian cause.

The US and its allies have also looked to address the global fallout of the war, Biden says, after "Putin tried to starve the world" by blocking Ukrainian grain exports on the Black Sea.

Allies have worked hard to "bolster global food supply" and head off a crisis, the US president says.

Biden reveals further Russian sanctions to come
While praising Poland for embracing refugees from Ukraine in the "darkest moments of their lives", Biden adds how "together we made sure Russia pays for its abuses".

He reveals how allies will announce more sanctions this week together so they can "seek justice for the crimes against humanity committed by Russia".

Biden says the US stands with Ukraine's emergency workers and responders, and those in cities across the country fighting to keep the power on in the face of Russia's war.

He praises volunteers who have helped to support Ukraine and the first lady of Poland, saying they have showcased all that is good about the human spirit.

Kyiv must prepare for 'bitter days' ahead - Biden
"We have to be honest and clear-eyed as we look at the year ahead," Biden continues, outside the Royal Castle in Warsaw. [/color]

He warns there will "continue to be hard and very bitter days" ahead for Ukraine, despite his conviction that Kyiv will prevail in its war with Russia.

He is confident that Ukraine will steel itself - and that its allies will continue to "have Ukraine's back".

US president's 'rock-solid' commitment to Nato
Biden once again reiterates the US’ “rock-solid” commitment to Nato.

“An attack against one is an attack against all. It’s a sacred oath.”

He says the coalition is not just about defending nations and protecting Ukraine, but also about building prosperity, peace and respect worldwide.

Biden added that the United States will host a Nato summit next year as the alliance turns 75 years old.

There is a choice between chaos and stability, Biden says
Biden says the decisions made over the next five years or so will define us for decades to come.

While decisions are ours, the principles and the stakes are eternal, he says.

Biden goes on to say it's a choice between chaos and stability, hope and fear, democracy that lifts the human spirit and the brutal hand of dictators.

There is no higher aspiration than freedom, he says.

Biden speech ends
Biden concludes his speech by thanking Poland, Ukrainian troops and "all those who defend freedom".

He says: "Let us move forward with faith and conviction and with an abiding commitment to be allies, not of darkness but of light."

And with that he ends his speech.

Biden my Man, I so much appreciate his unwavering support for Ukraine, he knows the danger of not helping Ukraine.

Europe needs US protection more than ever before, the despot in Kremlin has lost the war.

Donald trump would have allowed Ukraine to burn if he was the one incharge.

angry As a child when you listen to the west you would think they were sent by God to save the world. As you become older, rational and aware, you find out that they are not only a problem to world peace but also to their own peace.

Russia is the most sanctioned country now, but still economically vibrant than those sanctioning them. Europe are just hurting themselves unnecessarily because of Biden and his fellow criminals in Washington.
