Every Device Apple Unveiled at Its Big March Event

Apple's March 8 event was a 'whoa' moment. From the announcement of two new iPhone 13 colors to the unveiling of a 27-inch Studio Display, the event, dubbed Peek Performance, started and ended with a bang.

Read on for details.

iPhone 13 goes green
The well-selling iPhone 13 now has two new colors. Like Apple did last spring, releasing an iPhone 12 with a purple finish, the base iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini now have green-colored finishes  --  and the iPhone 13 Pro and the 13 Pro Max will now be available in an Alpine green color, starting March 11.

The iPhone SE (3rd gen):
Apple also unveiled a new iteration of its budget iPhone SE. Though the new iPhone SE looks a lot like the older generation, it comes with 5G capability and has several enhancements, like an improved 12-MP rear camera that allows Photographic Styles and Deep Fusion. To keep it from dust and spills, it's also having IP67-rated glass on the front and back -- the toughest glass on a phone and the same glass on the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13. Apple was also gracious, letting the latest iPhone SE get the new A15 processor, the same processor in the iPhone 13, which means enhanced battery life and finer performance than the older SE iteration.

The new iPad Air (5th gen)
Two years ago, the 4th gen iPad Air was a design revamp - but the just-announced iPad Air has even more. As announced last Tuesday, the 5th gen iPad Air brings with it Apple's M1 processor (the same processor in the current iPad Pros), giving the tablet up to 60 percent better performance than the previous generation. It features a 12-MP ultra-wide front camera with Center Stage, has a brighter display, and offers 5G on the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.

Mac Studio with M1 Max/Ultra
The show-off that stood out the most was the Mac Studio, a new PC line from Apple. It's 7.7 inches square and 3.7 inches tall (like two Mac minis vertically stacked). The new product packs with it several Thunderbolt ports, two USB-A slots, one HDMI port, a headphone jack, and, on the front, an SD card slot and two USB-C ports. It also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built-in and allows you to see your output through four Apple XDR displays and a 4K TV at the same time. You can find one with an M1 Max processor or a different model with Apple's new (and more powerful) M1 Ultra chip.

27-inch Studio Display
Designed specifically for the Mac Studio is a new 27-inch monitor, the Apple Studio Display. It looks similar to the older 27-inch iMac but is more appealing with slimmer bezels. And it's got on the inside an A13 Bionic chip, which powers iOS in the display and pretty well handles processes around the 12-MP ultra-wide webcam (with Center Stage), the six-speaker audio system (with Spatial Audio), and the three-mic array on the monitor. What's more, the Studio Display brings along four USB-C ports, plus a Thunderbolt 3 port that can charge a MacBook.

M1 Ultra
A special product highlight at Peek Performance was the M1 Ultra, which is "the world's most powerful chip for a PC," according to Apple, and joins older siblings  --  the base M1, the M1 Pro, and the M1 Max - -  in the M1 chip family. The M1 Ultra has seven times more transistors than the base M1 and has double everything on the M1 Max: it's double the video engine, double the Neural Engine (for machine learning functions), and double the memory bandwidth of the M1 Max. It works as a single chip with up to 128 Gb, 20 CPU cores, and 64 GPU cores and is debuting in the other variant of the Mac Studio - those buying that model are in for all the good stuff.
