All universities should be privatized. Government can help by granting scholarship, loans and grants to outstanding students in WAEC and JAMB examinations.

UNIVERSITY EDUCATION IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT.
Re: Old News Paper: ASUU On Strike In 1981 by StaffofOrayan(m): 10:31am On Mar 18, 2022
The reason for this is VERY SIMPLE!
One part of the country values education, the other part doesn't, so education is NEVER a national issue, and would never be,

Government claim that they are subsidizing the University Education, the reason they want the University teachers to collect what ever they are able to give them. The same thing happens in health sector and fuel

If education and health sectors are commercialized that means no hope for the poor masses

A country that justifies crime because it was carried out by a youth or a particular tribe, isn't ready to grow at all.

The youths we praise today for fraud are the ones whole will rule tomorrow. What then will happen to your country's treasury which they now have the key to?

Nigeria is a country that likes big gov't.....for everything to be centralised and controlled fom Abuja, so some can greedily grab more than is due to them while using their conrol of the centre to hold others down. The reason why they will not privatise the premier universities in Nigeria is the same reason why they don't want to practise true fiscal federalism, where regions/states own their resources and can develop at their own pace!

Misguided talk. The past and present leaders are not youth of today.
Is it the youth of today that ruled from 1960?
Or is buhari the youth of today?

Shifting blame lol

Mumu talk. Countries were education are not subsidized already has a platform to elevate majority citizen from poverty.

If the federal government can't handle university then we should practice fiscal federalism .

You're part of nigerians problem

It is a useful thing to debate no need abusing each other

The reality is one of quantity versus quality.

It is easy putting people in a place called "university" for 4 years and afterwards call them graduates but how is that different from giving them a chieftaincy title. The entire time spent does not transform them or equip them with skills to make them productive or employable. To improve quality will cost money so we need to sit down and do a proper analysis of what that cost is and if we are prepared to pay it.

A situation where undergraduates are packed like sardines or even spillover and sit outside the classroom is self deception. These "universities" are often unworthy of the name.

Today with a population of nearly 200 million we have to make painful choices. That population is the reall problem
I believe we should focus more on vocational education than university education when spending government money. That will be a bitter pill to swallow and we need dialogue and compromise

If you think Nigerian problem is corruption then there is no point engaging with you honestly

You that's not corrupt if they make you president what would you do

This is the same mindset Nigerian politicians have and when they get their they fail completely because it's obvious something more is wrong

I agree with you 100% . Its still this government that makes thing so difficult for her citizens.
I was not actually insulting the other man, the dichotomy in nigeria tertiary education has been recommended to be eradicated but the government only pay lip service to it.
Many nigerians get work online from freelancing site from companies abroad but in nigeria here you can't get same job without your Bsc certificate.

The government has priotized university education over skill earning and vocational training. That's why most engineers who does the dirty job in companies never get to the level of someone who never learnt anything practical, just holding bcs certificate.
Go to many artisan today and see the crude method they use in working.
Whenever you watch an artisan from developed country working vs when nigerians artisans works you'll see the big difference. Maybe that's why we can't export locally made chairs abroad instead we import.
A sensible government would try to meet the artisan association, create programs that'll teach them how to use various tools to increase their production efficiency. If a furniture maker can export his furniture to other countries in africa that's a bonus to nigeria and the furniture maker.

Today people will prefer buying product made from artisans from developed countries because they feel the quality of production abroad is far better than that of nigeria of which is very true.
The technologist in nigeria despite the fact that they can't get employed in nigeria if theydont have a degree they still strive to get online jobs but the government still frustrate them with electricity problem.

If vocational training is not been taking serious and the dichotomy in our tertiary institutions is not been erased we'll still have the same problem over and over again.

We all know what we want. True federalism , restructuring .but we elect leaders who don't want to make changes.
They only use that as campaign promises and later tell us why its not possible.
