Review: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra unites the best of S and Note phones

Samsung has shaken up its phone series in the top segment.

The Galaxy Note series has come to an end, but there’s good news for users looking for the best cameras and swear by a stylus:

the Galaxy S22 Ultra has it all.

For years, Samsung released a new phone in the top segment twice a year. In the spring a Galaxy S, in the autumn a Galaxy Note.

There was initially a clear distinction between the phones.

The Note was a lot bigger than the Galaxy S and in combination with the S Pen, samsung’s stylus, it was very suitable for taking notes, for example.

The distinction became smaller and smaller. That’s mainly because phones generally got bigger and bigger screens over the years.

That also applied to the Samsung Galaxy S phones. In the end, almost the only difference was the S Pen.

With the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Samsung serves both the S and Note camps.

The phone has a large and bright screen (6.8 inches) and an S Pen, but also the necessary improvements in, for example, the cameras, as you are used to from an S-phone.

But in general, the S22 Ultra feels mainly like a Note device.

This is mainly due to its shape. Just like the Note 20 Ultra, this device has round sides and a flat bottom, where the pen goes in and out.

The other phones in the S22 line, the S22 and the S22 Plus, have their own face.

There are some improvements in the software. The portrait mode has been updated and that (again) produces beautiful portraits, with a sharp subject and faded background.

Samsung does that a lot better than many other phone makers. The night mode has also been improved to capture more details in the dark.

The results are generally fine, but no earth-shattering progress has
